Solo: A Star Wars Story looks set to be a major box office disappointment for Disney but is that enough to result in a change of leadership at Lucasfilm? The list of directors fired by Kathleen Kennedy over apparent creative differences continues to grow so it's feasible that she's going to take the blame for what happened with this spinoff. Before that, though, she delivered a huge string of box office hits.
Regardless, it was last week we heard that there could be a "changing of the guards" in September and a lot of names were put forward as possible replacements. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was obviously among them (especially as the current era of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies is wrapping up with Avengers 4) but the possibility of him taking charge of Lucasfilm has now been debunked.
"Feige is in a league all his own in terms of setting the tone for a franchise," notes Deadline, "after the misfire of Lucasfilm’s Han Solo movie after Kathleen Kennedy fired LEGO filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller — just the latest instance where up and coming filmmakers were replaced — there have been rumors about how long Kennedy will continue. Even as a hot rumor that Feige might take oversight on Lucasfilm fare was roundly denied." There you have it but it would be fun to see!
After all, it's easy to imagine Feige taking any franchise to the next level but it's probably best for him to remain part of the MCU moving forward as there are more stories to tell. What do you think?
