Fox to reboot the Predator Franchise!

The upswing to this bit of news is that Robert Rodriguez and his Trouble Maker Studios are reported to be producing this reboot for Fox.

In recent news Bloodydisgusting.com is reporting that Fox will indeed reboot the once successful Predator franchise. The first movie in the series (1987) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger was pretty damn good. In an all out battle between mortal human's against the best of a superior race of Predators, the movie showcased one Predator taking out a elite military team. Building up the suspenseful end to the movie with Arnold defeating the Predator.

This from the studio "In the reboot a team of commandoes face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters." Hmm, sounds oddly familiar. But the twist is instead of one Predator our fearless team of commandos is facing a race of vicious monsters. The whole race? Seems like the odds are defiantly in the Predators favor. Remember it only took one to take out an elite military team originally on a rescue mission. Now it would be fun to see what damage the whole race of Predators could do, but at what expense to the movie. Making the Predator movie franchise into a race war seems unbelievably predictable. Simply put, the human race would have no chance in winning, making the end of the movie dull and easy to figure out.

The upswing to this bit of news is that Robert Rodriguez and his Trouble Maker Studios are reported to be producing this reboot for Fox. That gives the project certain hope, as Rodriguez has been fairly successful in the past. No writer and no script has been attached yet.

Fox hasn't totally crucified this franchise,,,,yet. Let's hope they don't and hire a good script writer and maybe change a few things about the direction of this film.

Firstly, the guy who's doing it I do not trust ONE BIT.
No guy who made a serise like "SPY KIDS" or SHARK BOY AND LAVA GIRL, is gonna make me believe they can REBOOT Predator.

Secondly IT DOESN'T NEED ONE, THEY'RE FINE JUST MAKING MORE FROM THE SERISE THEY GOT!

some movies they should just leave it be. its a bad idea cuz you cant help but compare them to the originals and doing so will make these movies suck. i love these movies they are great but i think they should focus more on comming up with something original and new.

Hollywood is really scrapping the bottom, Friday the 13th, Predator, Karate Kid, Nightmare on Elm street, etc, etc.

Leave those classics alone, get fresh ideas, we don't need reboots I hope they all bomb.

I mean sure today's special effects can make anything visually appealing but I like what they did with what they had back then (most Nightmare on elm street effects look much better than some effects used today)

it has got my interest, but i don't think the Predator franchise needs a "reboot" those movies where great. Just make another well done movie with a new plot and new hero, maybe a continued story line from a previous movie. Somthing fresh not the same movie over again.

Predator can be good if done right. I just wish they started AVP somewhere in space. Let see more of the homeworlds of alien & predator. But I will have to say AVP2 was full of action. Very Good!

Hey, GET TO THE CHHHOPPPER!!!!!! ARNOLD GOT LOVE HIM!

I hope he doesn't [frick] it up, why not get a Director the knows what he is doing like Zack Snyder or Bryan Singer.

Why? Why a reeboot, it doesn't need one. If they want to do a new one why not just a Predator 3. Maybe a futuristic one were they fight us in space, like in the old AvP comics. Or better yet bring back John McTiernan the guy who directed the first Predator. He only has directed 14 films but they include Die Hard, Predator, Hunt for Red October and The Thirteenth Warrior. And grif awesome idea I would pay to see it, what do you think they should hunt , Aliens, cause hat would be cool.

Why, Robert Rodriguez, why? Aren't you rebooting enough crap already?

Its just not going to be the same, without "You one ugly mutha f**ka" in good ol' Arnold talk. This is going to bomb, they need to shoot the producers of all these remakes, and come up with something new!

Why do they feel they need to reboot the Schwarzenegger version? The star was the Predator and that film is iconic and successful! Reboot AVP and AVP 2 those are the ones that sucked! Even Predator 2 had more appeal than those suck-fests. They sucked in the most suckiest suck way in all time! Retards! Its like rebooting the first Star Wars. Don't flippin touch it! Or what about Alien? Will they reboot that one too? They have their collective heads up in dark crevasses.
This sucks!

what the hell?
Robert Rodriguez was talking about reviving it 10 years ago. I remeber him wanting to base it on the arctic comic book story (somehow they turned that into avp...)

I dont get why it has to be a reboot anyway, it should be a sequal, we've had the jungle scenario, we've had a city scenario and AVP stole the artic scenario, avp2 gave us the hill-billy scenario. these films should be like a predator vacation movie highlighting the diferent places predator likes to go hunting. they can set the new one in England, hackney london, predator comes down has to endure the shit wheather and then gets mugged by some chav hoodies who happy slap him on their mobile phones.

I say let them do it... it would be better than nothing. because if it turns out to be shit all you have to do is not watch it.

no phinehas, they have their heads up the Dark Knights crevice. They had a good idea and made good with the production/acting/BUDGET. Most remakes these days seem like they are going to be hurried or just rehashed rather then retold.

both predator movies were fine the way they were. why reboot? they need to make a predator 3 if anything. maybe have a predator army facing our military. then they can finish it off in an alien vs predator 3 where an army of aliens arrives on earth for a huge 3-way battle between aliens, predators and mankind. resulting in massive losses of human life, but the annihilation of predators and aliens. ending both franchises.

ThyMule - 1/31/2009, 10:51 AM
Absurd...another good movie that would not need a re-boot. Let's be serious here. Not that Arnold was an amazing actor or anything, but no one is going to live up to his cheese lines. Imagine another actor saying "stick around"...I couldn't laugh quite as hard.
MisterNiceGuy

the AVP movies did have a shot but they ruined those by putting humans in it...bad acting ones at that.
Aiiwolf
Aiiwolf - 1/31/2009, 3:57 PM
They should only make Predator three. Thats it.

To Soul Eater:

I like Robert Rodriquez. Spy Kids, and that crappy Lava boy movie that youre talking about was for KIDS...it was attracted to kids....for only kids! Have you even seen his past work? He a [frick]ing awesome director.

Director of:

El Mariachi
Desperado
Once upon a time in Mexico
Four Rooms [Awesome short flicks into one segament]
From dusk until Dawn
Planet Terror
Sin City 1
Sin City 2
Sin City 3

...he producing most of his films right now...and another film "red sonja"....

I DONT SEE HOW ROBERT RODRIQUEZ WILL FAIL IF THEY DO A REBOOT OR EVEN A THIRD SEQUEL.

I like the choice of director..I just dont like the idea of a reboot. They should continue with a sequel and I bet it will be awesome.

Indeed, I can see it being good. I really want it to be a sequel..but if its a reboot they think will help them make this a great flick...then thats fine.

I still LOVE the original movie. I love the fact they added humor in the film..and arnold's accent will always make you laugh...specially when hes pissed off!

"Comeeee onnn KILLL MEEE...I'mm hereee....Kill me dooo itttt!!" uahaha

Dude seriously! Rodrieguez sucks! out of all those movies you mentioned only Sin City was good. He has no idea how to structure a movie or maintain a narrative, all of his fims feel like they wer written and pasted together by 4 different people working in different genres.

but im with you on the Predator reboot..its getting ridiculous now..whats next a remake or [frick]ing Star Wars?

Damit! Leave the classics shine on all their freaking glory!!!! Don't F things up making a new thing that could possibly bomb and just ruin everything!!!!

What? Just because Batman rebooted and went well you think Predator will be the same? Batman needed a reboot but predator were awesome movies! Leave them be!!

Besides Requiem was a terrible movie, it sucked.. So much sh#t about the predalien and it turn out to be a lame excuse of a hybrid. If they are making the franchise like Requiem they can kiss predator's glory goodbye!

They tried to make it seem like a scary movie or something.. AVP worked because it was more of a action movie than a terror movie. You were seen your favorite character kicking @ss and been place in a awkward situation. But requiem they tried to make the movie like terror and it failed! I saw the special features and that's what they were aiming for they wanted the movie to be scary and it just ruined everything..

After fighting the Alien queen in AVP1 You expect the hybrid to be something powerful and awesome! But the Alien from the first movie the one that survive the net and was marked, It was 100 times more impressive, tough and iconic than the lame-azs predalien. All the predalien did was kill people and have a sex scene with a pregnant lady.. Wow... Big deal...

My opinion.

Oddfellow - 2/1/2009, 7:49 AM
I don't understand what about Predator needs a reboot? More importantly, how will we be able to tell? The narratives in the first couple movies are told in such a way that a third movie can completely ignore them and still be considered a continuation of the story itself.

So I'm confused.
indslp
indslp - 2/1/2009, 11:43 AM
What they need to do is bring the Predator movies into the same future timeline as the Alien movies, just like in the original AVP Dark Horse books. But maybe also bring back Winona Ryder along w/Bill Paxton, as he is the only actor to have ever fought both creatures and Im sure he's just waiting to deal a little pay back to both of them.

AVP1 established the link w/the WEYLAND CORP. and their hunt for E.T. life in the future during the Ripley era. So lets consider AVP1 as what it was supposed to be, a prequel to the Aliens of the Riply era and lets continue the AVP movies from that time line. AVP2 was just a worthless movie.
THEHAWK

Hey I still like grifs idea. I have been waiting for years to see a new Predator film. Predator 2 was good, I don't care what fault you find in it, it was good and Danny Glover was good. I remember a few years ago there was a short AVP comic that came out. The comic featured an aging Predator going on a last hunt to prove that he is not to old. The story is told from the Predator's perspective and has hardly any dialouge. In the end it shows him facing large and vicious creatures before coming face to face with the challenge he was searching for an Alien. He fights the alien expecting it to share his sense of honor, after both are horribly wounded he lays down his weapon expecting the Alien to leave, and as you can expect the old Predator is killed.

I like grif's idea about showing how the Predtor got the flintlock, the film could be about an aging Predators last hunt. In the course of it he has flashbacks of events throughout his life. In this way there could be an actual human cast. Unfortunately, as George Lucas noted, you need humans in films, even in suporting roles so that the audience could have something to relate to. The PRedator could have visited different periods of history. Imagine, a Predator in the American Revolution, the Civil War, WWII, or Vietnam. In the end it could show what happens on Earth, such as a Predator army attacking Earth, forcing it to make the technological leaps it has in the Alien movies.

I think the Alien and Predator movies need to quit trying to recreate what worked with the originals and try something new, something that has never been tried before. Alien movies need less digital and farfetched themes, thats the reason Sigorney Weaver won't make another. She says there is no poit acting in a video game. Predator should not be Pred vs. strong guy, again.

Juicerules - 2/2/2009, 10:06 PM
I agree with a lot of the posts here. I like Grifs idea, but it would never work b/c I don't see a wide audience watching a film without words and without humans. Personally me and other fanboys would love it, but it limits your audience too much. I would like a jungle scenario again as a Predator 3. A big massive war movie vs Predators with some Aliens on the side could be kickass. Rodriguez could give it enough cool scenes and would probably give it a lot of chesse which the first flick had. I think he could pull it off.

if they are going to reboot a predator movie start with the second one what kind of pu$$y a$$ predator gets his a$$ kicked by Danny Glover. I want a predator from the first movie or even AvP2 they dint take crap from anyone i mean if Arnold Schwarzenegger cant fight one how is glover going to did he get the retard on the ship.
And leave the aliens out they will never do a movie where a predator win over a alien they think that would kill the Franchise let face aliens would get there a$$ kicked out of socket.

It should just be a continuation or IF a reboot than try not to incorporate anything that would remind us that hey... the world has already seen several predators and even aliens now...

I liked the one guys idea about having predator turn up in the middle east. Drawn to conflict right? Would be wild to have predator running around those dense jalalabad towns, leaping roof tops, skinning and stringing up taliban! And well.. there is more than enough U.S. troops over there to take 'em down eh?

Still, should have had more predator movies by now anyway. The AvP franchise isn't as good as it could be...

@ Rorschach01

I agree with you. But Rodriquez has potential....I mean if they find a BETTER director I'd be up for it...as long as they dont choose an idiot like that asian director from the SAW movies. I want to see a well developed ORIGIN predator movie.

Like how about on their planet ya know? I'm sick off seeing them starting shit on ours lol....How about we go GOW2 on their asses for once lol
