According to the Wall Street Journal James Cameron confirmed that he is in fact working on a novel based on the award winning movie Avatar.

During a reception on Tuesday night this is what he had to say "There are things you can do in books that you can't do with films".The book will follow the film but will add more details about the chacters and planet of pandora.

I'm all for reading but the big selling point of Avatar was the top flight special effects. I enjoyed the story but it was not the main reason to see the film. I like the idea of learing more about Pandora but I would rather see it on film.

lol @ Tea
People on the other thread are talking about putting down smallville. I wish Avatar would be put down. Im tired of this over hyped crap. The only good this movie did was present us with a new level of CGI now lets apply this to more original movies and CBMs.

I really liked the movie and as over hyped as it was, I think a lot of the negativity toward it is unfounded. That being said, i'm sick of [frick]ing hearing about it!

well, unless it's a GRAPHIC novel, it's still irrelevant to this site's interests, moving on...

@hammergod- you sure it will follow the movie? not trying to call you out or anything, but i read this is gonna be a prequel. Like the book will prob just be 100% navi and before human interferance.

@rinjoclans- although it will just be a standard text novel, its still pretty relevant. Avatar isnt a "CBM" but its got the "M" part of it down and its the biggest "M" in the world. I think most people on here, sick of THIS movie or not, are interested in most movie related topics so some degree. I think this article is very relevant

I agree with you on this one, man. The selling point was the graphic work. Now, I'm not saying that I didn't love the story. Cause I adored it. But, even so. I'm not going to go out of my way to read this. I'd like to have that Pandora survival guide, thing, but that's totally different.

@Blankofthedead. Going to have to disagree there, if this site were called "Comics-and-books-and-movies.com" then yes, SURE, it's relevant, but no matter how big of a movie Avatar becomes, its still not a COMICBOOKMOVIE. where do we draw the line if we start discussing things just cuz they're popular? this site has a very specific target audience and the only thing that keeps it unique and interesting is that it SPECIFICALLY covers movies based on COMIC BOOKS exclusively.

@rinjoclans- I dont htink you should knock an article or related news to it just because its not based specifically on a comic. There was plenty of news on Arkham Assylum, and thats a game NOT based on a movie. We post a lot of things here unrelated to just CBMs and its relevant to most of our interests. Just because I dont like some things on here doesnt mean im gonna complain jsut because its not MY interest. Have your own view on it, I just think there's nothing wrong with posting some extra stuff on here outside of the strict CBM genre

@blankofthedead If that's your only example, then no offense but I think you missed my point entirely. If this site reports on something that isn't a movie based on a comic book, then I'm totally fine with it being some other type of mainstream media BASED ON A COMIC BOOK- see that's the kicker, if the coverage here gets a little lax, you won't see me complaining, but I feel like it's important that it at least stays within the confines of things based on comic books, work outside that and you've taken away what makes this site stand apart from others. Avatar, clearly, stands far and away outside of these confines. yes, it is the biggest movie in the world right now, which means it also has the most media coverage, if I want information on Avatar, I need go no further than something as common as AOL.com.

HAHA ooooook bud, so your standard is.. it can be comic book related, and not comic book MOViE related and thats ok, but it cant be movie related only? same thing.. its a 50/50 thing that makes up the idea of this site. And if you really need to know, The voice for the female Navi was in Star Trek, Sam Worthington was in Terminator, and will be in Dracula and Siguorney Weaver was in Aliens... all of which have comic book relations. If you haven't noticed, stars from CBMs on here have their other work noted due to their relation to the said CBM... You'll notice all news related to Christian Bale was posted even irrelevant to his roles as Conner or Wayne. ITS RELEVANT TO THIS SITE..

"it can be comic book related, and not comic book MOViE related and thats ok, but it cant be movie related only? same thing"

please explain how...

and everything that came after that was just mindlessly grasping for straws so we'll leave it at that.

blankofthedead - 2/18/2010, 7:47 PM
Your saying that its ok for comic book related things that arent related to movies on this site, but its not ok for movie related things that arent related to comics? thats retarded. Also grasping for straws? its not even a question that when an actor is in a CBM or a director or writer or anything, the following projects are generally followed by this site due to the relevance of the CBM project. Just get over it, quit complaining and how about you just skip over the articles that aren't ur cup of tea.

ah, repeating yourself to explain yourself.

well, you are clearly the winner here as you are the angriest.
blankofthedead
blankofthedead - 2/18/2010, 8:45 PM
Im saying its equally unrelated to this exact site title to have comic news that isnt aobut movies as it is to have movie news not aobut comics, i htink that not only explains it, but yes it restates it as well. I didnt think it needed an explanation but either way, my point is... just skip over it if you dont wanna read about it.
