While the release of Avatar 2 is still a while away (it was recently pushed back even further because of the COVID-19 pandemic), production on the sequels has been underway for quite some time now. The film's social media accounts have been sharing intriguing stills from the film's unique sets, and director James Cameron can be seen working underwater in this latest batch.

These stills feature actors shooting on a pool set, with rigs, motion capture suits, and noodles to accompany it. How this will translate to screen from a filmmaking perspective remains to be seen, but when all is said and done, we know Cameron will at least deliver a visually spectacular return trip to Pandora.

Check out the stills below:

Avatar 2 will be flying into theaters on December 17th, 2021, with its three successors arriving every other December afterwards. The sequel will mark 12 years since the original film was released.

@CurlyBill - Do you see where they [frick]ed up in that clip?

Cameron's Canadian, but he doesn't have the floppy head.

@L0RDbuckethead - Thats got to be one of my favorite takes on any celebrity on south park. It really encapsulates the mad genius blowhard that Caneron seems to be lol.

The last time I saw Avatar was like in 2014, and it didn't hold up as well as I remember. I like Cameron, and of he can pull this saga off, it may be epic. But I didn't see them as being anything but CGI mediocrity

@Dredd97 - Last time I saw Avatar was in 2009 and it was the greatest [frick]ing movie ever to my 10 year old brain. I should probably rewatch it soon.

@tmp3 - Hahaha it was great in IMAX. On my TV, not so much. I hope these are worth the 10+ year wait

@Dredd97 - Yeah, especially with all the awesome projects Cameron could have made in that time.

@tmp3 - Exactly my point. To basically take him away from the world of movies for 12 years, it had better be worth it. The man has made some modern classics.

Stay Home has me and wife watching both Cameron’s Titanic and Atlantis docs on DISNEY +. That man sure has a passion for the sea. 🔱 🌊 ❤️

I'm hyped for this, the visuals and world building in the first were great, can't wait to see how impressive the cgi will look, the digital artists have been working hard and it'll look great. Just like Endgame, LOTR and Star Wars, These are the types of movies where you get to see the creativity and talent of everybody involved in a project. :)

Unless Cameron is going to be the one directed Cruise in space, not even things like underwater filming can impress me anymore

I’m reminded of how stupidly beautiful the short underwater scene in Alita was. I guess they were testing the tech in that one.

I have no idea what to spect from this movie, but I have faith in Cameron.

Cant really do anything new with CGI honestly. Probably gonna be a big pretty colorful movie but I just dont know what he can do that hasn't already been done....unless he literally puts us in the movie.
