"Edge of Tomorrow" has been praised for it's inventiveness and hailed by some as a Sci Fi classic. I went in with high expectations and as massive Tom Cruise fan I was really looking forward to it. I have to be honest with myself and say that I found it quite ordinary, all the best scenes and ideas lifted from much better films such as "Groundhog Day", "Starship Troopers" and "Aliens". Don't get me wrong if these films didn't exist then it would be something pretty special but all the humour has been directly lifted from "Groundhog Day". Yes I realise that the premise is pretty much the same but in a futuristic setting, but why not try and do something a little different? The action scenes are well handled and the 'suits' are fantastic but the aliens are a real let down. They are the usual generic poorly rendered CGI critters that we have seen a million times before. The alien effects in "Starship Troopers" (1997) are far superior to anything on offer here. Cruise is good as always and is obviously enjoying the more comedy aspects of the film but Emily Blunt, dubbed by some as the 'new Sarah Conner' is instantly forgettable. It's a shame but I have to admit that its all just so forgettable. Looking back "Oblivion" has more originality and a better story than anything on offer here.
