George Lucas Is Gearing Up For A Star Wars Trilogy In 3-D!!!

George says that 'AVATAR' has made a Star Wars Trilogy in 3-D possible!!!

Can you believe it? I don't. But I have a lot of hope and before now it has only been speculation on what is going on with the Star Wars universe. George Lucas has finally chimed in:

"[I'm] happy it's so successful, and worked very well in 3 D," Lucas told Access Hollywood at Sunday's Golden Globes after party. "Haven't been a big fan of 3 D, but that movie definitely improves in (the field of) 3 D."

Lucas added, "We've been looking for years and years and years of trying to take Star Wars and put it in 3 D ... But, [the] technology hasn't been there. We've been struggling with it, but I think this will be a new impetus to make that happen."



SWEET!!! Finally word from someone else other then the secretary at Skywalker Ranch. We get word from Lucas himself.

The next question off course is what direction could the new 'Star Wars' franchise take off on? Will it be the Grand Admiral Thrawn stories written by Timothy Zahn? Or will it be focused on events that happen after all the books that have already been written? Or will Lucas just deceide to convert the first 6 episodes into 3 D and attempt to shove it down the populations throat,,, again? Let's hope not. Bring on 7, 8, and 9!!! Re cast the charecters if you have to! Go with what your good at.

So slap your Grandma and get in line, I think were in for a hell of a ride. Stay tuned for further developments.

Do it up motion capture. Episodes 7, 8, and 9 with the original cast CG'ed to look like they did in the early 80's. That would be the dream. Well... that and keeping Lucas out of the director's chair.

The Timothy Zahn storyline is awesome but all the key actors are too old to play their parts now!!!!!

I was reading about this on another site..I got the impression he meant he was just going to re-release the originals in 3D format..but I could be wrong...

@ JMan: yes I can beleive it. It has been hinted at for a long while now. Great job btw. I really loled at the "slap my grandma" thing

After ROTS Lucas told everybody that there wouldn't be any more movies, and I really just thought what an incredible waste that was. FOR YEARS I have said they need to do a post Episode 6 trilogy and tell about what happened to Han, Luke, and Leia after the Emporer fell.
There is SO MUCH potential. Way too much not to try.

This might be cool. I will certianly watch this with keen interest.

One thing though... I truly truly do hope that Lucas has the insight to let someone else write it. He can afford to hire the greatest writers in the world and The Star Wars movies deserve for himnto do just that.

I'm not sure whether I'd bother to see any of the original movies in 3D unless they were to release them on blu-ray or something!

I like Trek but something about Star Wars keeps my interest after the movie is done playing. It's not as cut and dry as Trek. Lucas should do 7, 8, and 9 but I guess when your a bazillionaire what you should do and what you want to do are two totally different things.

Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like he's talking about adding 3d to the earlier films like disney did to toy story 1 and 2, not making new ones.

If they decide to do another series I hope they are based on either the Starkiller character or the Legacy comic. Either one, to me, has great potential.

IMO, a 7, 8 and 9 trilogy should partially deal with Luke rebuilding the jedi academy. There was an awesome EU trilogy about that.

If not that, go with a story about Kyle Katarn from the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight video game series!!!
