JURASSIC PARK 4 Update From Producer Frank Marshall

Steven Spielberg's longtime producer updates on the next installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, suggesting that the movie could be released within two years and that it's definitely a direct sequel instead of a reboot.

Speaking with Collider while promoting The Bourne Legacy, producer Frank Marshall gives an update on Jurassic Park 4, which has been in some form of development for several years. During the interview, Marshall reveals when we should expect to see the fourquel in theaters. “I would say that it will be on the screen within two years.” This goes in line with what Steven Spielberg (who will produce the film) said at last year's Comic-Con, where he revealed that they were aiming to release Jurassic Park 4 within 2-3 years.

Marshall went on to confirm that Universal is eying a summer release for the movie due to its being a “popcorn movie”, while also stating that it’s a sequel (rather than a reboot, which is what has been rumored in the past). He also teases the advance of visual effects in the fourquel. “That’s what’s gonna be great about it, technology’s taken a leap now that we can really do some great things.” This doesn't mean that practical effects/prosthetic work (which were used in the first three movies) will be abandoned; Marshall says that using practical dinosaurs feels real to the audience.

Last month, we heard that screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes) were hired by Universal to work on the script for Jurassic Park 4. If the studio is indeed planning on releasing the movie sooner rather than later, then expect a director to be hired soon.

Great news. I hope they blow every ones mind by making dinosaurs that look super real without CGI. People need to cool with the CGI and use props more. With 3d it's gotten easier to see the difference between what is real and what is computer generated

We need a JP4 like we need an MIB 4, but we'll probably get one of those too. Here's an idea, Hollywood. HIRE SCREENWRITERS WITH NEW IDEAS AND STOP REHASHING THE SAME SHIT!

set it in the year 3000 after some apocalypse, and the surviving humans have to deal with the over population of dinosaurs left in the abandoned parks. would be cool just saying.

They'll never match the first one, that's a classic. The idea of the theme park gone wrong was thrilling and the first appearance of the T-Rex is quality cinema and often homaged.

They should just release number 1 again in 3D. Some of the shots were perfectly suited for it.

In an age of countless sequels and remakes that nobody is asking for, this is the one sequel that everyone seems to be asking for, but still hasn't been delivered. Typical Hollywood.

That said, I'm really looking forward to this, whenever it actually happens.

For me, "LOST" was a spiritual sequel to the JP franchise. It was everything the Lost World should have been. All that running around on a Hawaiian island for 120 episodes, discovering hatches and ruins and running from monsters... There's no need for another JP after that.

@angus yeah three has an unfair reputation.

two was awful... no redeeming elements whatsoever. three was hokey and yeah, some of the effects were bad, but it was effective... the spinosaurus and pteranodons were awesome and badass, and nod to the intelligence and maternal instances of the raptors (which they REALLY ought to retcon as deinonychus since they look and act NOTHING like velociraptors) was refreshing and showed some thought instead of just being another generic action scene.

It does sound interesting! However, set in the year 2050 would be better, I think. :)

The animatronics are the reason why the dinosaurs from the first Jurassic Park movie are more real than the entire world of Avatar. Animatronics FTW.
And I don't want to see super-smart dinnosaurs or dinosaurs with guns or hybrid dinosaurs or some shit like that. Just dinosaurs, they are better than any kind of monster that you can put on screen.
