JURASSIC WORLD Chomps Through The Competition With Impressive $146 Million Overseas Opening

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is now playing in 48 overseas markets before reaching North America later this month and the sequel has kicked off its run at the international box office with a solid start.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a lot of fun and while some critics would clearly like to see the franchise go extinct, moviegoers overseas are flocking to check the sequel out which has debuted with a $145.9 million opening weekend. It's impossible to say just how successful the movie is going to be at this stage and comparing it to the first instalment doesn't work because it's rolling out differently.

2015's Jurassic World was also a huge hit because of the nostalgia factor and there's bound to be a dip from that to the follow-up's performance. We'll get a better idea of how things are going over the coming weeks but the movie did land the fifth biggest international opening of 2018 behind Avengers: Infinity War, Monster Hunt 2, Deadpool 2, and Black Panther (all but Monster Hunt 2 debuted in 60 markets compared to Fallen Kingdom's 48 so it has exceeded expectations to reach that #5 spot).

The sequel has broken a number of June records in certain countries (including Hong Kong) and with no strong competition on the horizon until Ant-Man and The Wasp is released, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom could continue chomping through its rivals. Have you seen it yet? Let us know down below.

It's fine. Aggressively stupid but fine.

@derbomber - "Aggressively stupid" sounds about the opposite of "fine."

@derbomber - the only recent movie I would describe as “aggressively stupid” was TLJ. Even at its worst, the JP franchise has never sunk that low. Even JP3 had better written written characters and that wasn’t very good.

I’m looking forward to seeing JWFK.

@DanJack - god, we rewatched JP3 last night and it’s so bad....

@Subtlespammer24 - It really is. Sam Neill is the main highlight. And as bad as it was, the character development still seems like Shawshank Redemption compared to Last Jedi.

@EskimoJ - I guess it depends on what you were expecting. I have no affection for the Jurassic Park movies, so expectations are zero. I feel like people in movies need to make dumb decisions sometimes to move along a plot, I've just don't remember a recent blockbuster where people are this dumb. I guess a movie like Transformers, the characters seem in on the joke, where as this movie treats everything so serious.

My least favourite of the franchise, I have no idea what they plan to do with the next one but treating the T. Rex appearance and roar as it’s a big deal now needs to stop

@manofillintent1 - we don’t need that kind of negativity around here...

@Subtlespammer24 - no negativity, I’d just rather they not diminish that perfect shot from the first by trying to mirror it a couple more times

I really wanted to like it, I did.. there are some great parts, and it's very stylish in terms of visual popcorn. But once the movie was over I felt betrayed, like my heart was ripped out and shit on. That's my two cents lol
