JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM: Jeff Goldblum Sheds Some More Light On His Return As Dr. Ian Malcolm
Fans were thrilled to learn that the Thor: Ragnarok star would be back for the fifth instalment in the Jurassic Park franchise. But according to the actor, his part may not be as substantial as some hoped.
Jeff Goldblum's portrayal of Dr. Ian Malcolm is arguably one of his most beloved performances ever, having appeared in both the original Jurassic Park and its sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park.
While fans remained hopeful some of the original cast would appear in 2015's Jurassic World, it never materialized, but it looks like Universal was just holding back the goods for the sequel, and it was announced earlier this year that Goldblum will indeed appear in the 2018 sequel Fallen Kingdom. However, it seems as though fans hoping for anything substantial might be disappointed. Speaking on an Empire podcast, Goldblum had this to say about his role in the sequel:
‘It's small. Who knows, they may cut me out entirely! But if I stay in I'll be a sprig of parsley or a little garnish, hopefully with some impact!’
Based on those comments, it seems as though the actor's role in the film won't be a starring role, yet it could still be significant for the overarching story. Still, most will likely agree that a little of Goldblum’s signature quirkiness is better than no Goldblum at all.
We could even get a glimpse of the eccentric scientist in the first trailer for the film, which is expected to drop later this year with Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
