We recently learned that Justice League director Zack Snyder will get to make his Seven Samurai-inspired space movie after all - even though it'll be set in a different galaxy far, far away!
Back in July, it was announced that Snyder's next project for Netflix after Army of Thieves (out tomorrow) would be an epic sci-fi fantasy titled Rebel Moon, which he will also co-write with Army of the Dead scribe Shay Hatten and 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad.
The plot revolves around "a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy which is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. Desperate people dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand."
While speaking to Post-Cred Podcast, the filmmaker compared the movie to the opening Krypton-set scenes from Man of Steel. "The beginning of Man of Steel has pretty big science fiction elements in it, right? Krypton... that's kind of what we're doing in Rebel Moon, but on the biggest steroids that I can give it. Frankly, what I'm really interested [in] with this movie is creating a romantic sci-fi film on a scale that is frankly as big as you can make the movie."
Snyder has often said that if he was given the opportunity to helm a Star Wars movie, he'd pay homage to the great Akira Kurosawa with an epic space adventure, but it looks like he got tired of waiting for Lucasfilm to call! Details are still few and far between, but we're looking forward to finding out more about Rebel Moon before too long.
