Power Rangers got off to a stronger start than expected during Thursday evening showings with an impressive haul of $3.6 million. That's now put the reboot on track to earn $30 million to $40 million during its domestic debut, an amount which looks set to help it hold off competition from the likes of the Ryan Reynolds-led Life ($15 million - $20 million) and cop comedy CHIPs ($10 million - $12 million).
Power Rangers has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 44%, a figure it's fair to say is better than pretty much anyone ever expected. Whether or not bad word of mouth will hurt it obviously remains to be seen.
However, expected Power Rangers and all of these releases to be completely destroyed by Beauty and the Beast; after a massive $174.8 million debut last week, it's widely believed that it will earn upwards of $80 million this weekend, a figure which eclipses all of these newcomers.
