ROBOCOP Covers SFX; Joel Kinnaman Says "We Did Not Try To Remake The Movie"

SFX's latest cover features the all new, all black version of "the future of law enforcement", Robocop. The image is a variation on one we've seen previously, but we also have some new quotes from Joel Kinnaman, who will play Alex Murphy in the movie.

The mag also have an interview with the star of the reboot, Joel Kinnaman. Almost anytime anyone involved with a controversial (ie pointless) remake is quizzed about the decision to redo the movie, they claim that's not what they're actually doing and their version will be significantly altered etc. But of course, that's rarely the case. Will Robocop 2014 be different? “It’s a great responsibility," Kinnaman tells SFX. "Especially in a world where there’s a lot of remakes being made for cynical economic reasons. But having José as a director washed away those fears. The biggest respect you can pay to the original is to acknowledge it as a very intelligent movie, and try to make something intelligent to follow it up with, and not just replay old catchphrases. We kept one or two as a wink to the fans, but we did not try to remake the movie.”. To be fair, this version doesn't seem to be following that closely to Paul Verhoeven's original, so for better or worse we'll see what José Padilha and co. deliver come February.
