ROBOCOP Covers SFX; Joel Kinnaman Says "We Did Not Try To Remake The Movie"

SFX's latest cover features the all new, all black version of "the future of law enforcement", Robocop. The image is a variation on one we've seen previously, but we also have some new quotes from Joel Kinnaman, who will play Alex Murphy in the movie.

The mag also have an interview with the star of the reboot, Joel Kinnaman. Almost anytime anyone involved with a controversial (ie pointless) remake is quizzed about the decision to redo the movie, they claim that's not what they're actually doing and their version will be significantly altered etc. But of course, that's rarely the case. Will Robocop 2014 be different? “It’s a great responsibility," Kinnaman tells SFX. "Especially in a world where there’s a lot of remakes being made for cynical economic reasons. But having José as a director washed away those fears. The biggest respect you can pay to the original is to acknowledge it as a very intelligent movie, and try to make something intelligent to follow it up with, and not just replay old catchphrases. We kept one or two as a wink to the fans, but we did not try to remake the movie.”. To be fair, this version doesn't seem to be following that closely to Paul Verhoeven's original, so for better or worse we'll see what José Padilha and co. deliver come February. I think this movie could be awesome! There's always the people that will just hate it for the simple fact that it's a reboot, which makes no sense, but I'm gonna give it a chance.

I am apathetic about this film. I'd RATHER see Rich Buckler's DEATHLOK in a movie.

Omnicorp will be the bad guys, the blow up Murphy so they can experiment on him, Murphy finds out and battles Omnicorp, this way Robocop can have mass carnage while battling other robots and have no blood ie so they can keep the PG rating and insist that they didn't sacrifice anything for the PG rating.

It not even Kinnaman on a cover!

By the end of the movie it will be revealed that Omnicorp is just a Department of Omni Consumers Products - OCP!

He will be tested in China (moment he grabs Jim Gordon by neck is when they reveal to him his new body, then he shoots some robots in storage - "This is an illusion of a free will" - moment).

Omnicorp won't allow Murphhys wife and kid to see him for months! They reveal him on presentation in front of a people and reporters - moment when he detects criminals in the crowd).

It is bloodless and mediocre(and it is pretty much biggest thin you can hope for - mediocre).

This film doesn't look good at all. The actors, all of them, look like they're phoning it in (especially Samuel L. Jackson) and the action looks uninspired. So if you enjoyed that Total Recall remake, you're bound to enjoy this unmotivated mess as well, only made for the sole purpose of making lots of money and to further prove that Hollywood can remake anything they want for a quick, useless buck that could have been spent on 4 (or more) better and modestly budgeted movies instead. What do you think earns more? A terrible, big-budget film or four modestly budgeted films (with 50/50 odds of being good or bad)?

LOL. YEah good try Joel, now you just need to convince every other people, including producer who said that it was made to sell toys, that it is not made to make money. Yeah, sure.

Such a lying peace of Shit.

Doing a straight up remake would be a mistake. This actually looks pretty good IMO.

José Padilha has directed a lot of cop movies, so this is his forte.

@VolkanTaskillas

either you are trolling or did not saw Tropa de Elite 1&2.

Then again if you haven't saw Tropa De Elite you are obviously trolling by saying not true about the director whose movies you never watched.
