As Season 1 of Apple TV+'s sci-fi drama Silo draws to a conclusion in the coming weeks, there are still tons of unresolved questions. Thankfully, we'll be getting a second season to have these mysteries answered. Apple TV+ announced this week that the world-building drama about life in an underground silo has been renewed for Season 2.
Silo, which premieres on May 5, has quickly grown to become one of Apple TV+'s best series. Noting weekly viewership growth in the press release, the streamer revealed that Silo has become Apple's number-one drama series.
“It has been enormously fulfilling to see the engrossing, atmospheric and beautifully crafted sci-fi epic ‘Silo’ quickly become Apple’s number one drama series,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “As audiences around the world have become gripped by the mysteries and conspiracies buried within this fascinating subterranean world, viewership only continues to climb, and we are so excited for more secrets of the silo to be revealed in season two.”
Based on Hugh Howey’s New York Times bestselling trilogy of dystopian novels. Howey’s New York Times bestselling trilogy of dystopian novels, Silo follows humanity's survival on Earth within a mile-deep home that protects them from the toxic and deadly world outside. Unbeknownst to them when or why the silo was built, anyone who tries to find out faces fatal consequences.
The series stars Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols, an engineer who unexpectedly becomes the new sheriff of the silo. When she sets out for answers about a loved one's murder she uncovers a sinister mystery surrounding the nature of the silo and those who are secretly pulling the strings behind the scenes.
We are now eight episodes into Season 1 of Silo and each answer seemingly raises more questions. Hopefully, many of these questions are answered by the time the season finale rolls out, but given the nature of the series, I wouldn't be surprised to see the season end with a massive cliffhanger.
Reviews for Silo Season 1 have been largely positive with an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads:
With deft writing, awe-inspiring production design and the inestimable star power of Rebecca Ferguson, Silo is a mystery box well worth opening.
In addition to starring in the series, Rebecca Ferguson also serves as executive producer. Emmy-nominated screenwriter Graham Yost created the series based on the Hugh Howey novels and is also the showrunner.
“We cannot wait for audiences around the world to immerse themselves in the epic world we have created to bring Hugh Howey’s novels to life,” said Yost. "Apple has believed in our vision from day one and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to dig deeper into this story and peel back the layers to our characters in the silo.”
