Benedict Cumberbatch's Reps Deny STAR WARS Role

Benedict Cumberbatch's Reps Deny STAR WARS Role

Despite numerous sites running with the story, and even some supposed details on his specific role making their way online, Cumberbatch's reps have said there is "no truth" to the rumor that he's been cast in Star Wars: Episode VII. But can THEY be trusted?

The rumor confirmation/denial game is always a funny one -- basically it's very rare for an actor's representatives to officially confirm a casting scoop, and on a few occasions they've flat out lied about it. Still, more often than not if it's more than just a "no comment" and a full statement of denial is released, then that usually ends up being the case...and that's what we have here. “There is no truth to the rumor Benedict has been cast in Star Wars,” a spokesperson for the 37-year-old actor told NY Daily News. “I think the rumors are circling because JJ and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on Star Trek .” That may be the case, and it may not! This in no way means Cumberbatch definitely won't be a part of the movie; we're just bringing you the latest update, and that update is...according to his camp he ain't in the movie! We'll surely find out one way or another soon enough.

Seriously...What else are they gonna say?

"Ah damn...you got us, it's true"?

If this rumor isn't confirmed this week or the next, than I think we can officially call it a Bs rumor.

If it was El Mayiambe, you guys would dismiss this instead of "waiting weeks later". Not to mention he nailed two solid scoops in the past couple of weeks.

Cumberbatch for Martian Manhunter. No wait Doc Strange. No a Sith. No wait Khan. No wait Brainiac. No in fact Ultron. He could be Batman. He would be perfect for Green Goblin. He would be a [frick]ing awesome Hush. No wait I got it, Lobster Johnson. Nah how about Freddy. Wait why not the Terminator. He could do Rambo. He would be a badass Hal Jordan. Maybe he could be Daredevil. How about Lex.

What do you think of these?

I didn't believe it in the first place, at least not the rumor about him being a major, if not THE major, villain. Abrams might want to do that, but I just don't see Lucasfilm or Disney allowing THE MAIN Star Trek villain to become THE MAIN Star Wars villain. It would be like asking Ricardo Montalban to play the Emperor in RotJ right after Wrath of Khan, everyone would watch the Star Wars film and basically see Khan as the villain. I just don't see that happening, cause I don't think Disney wants the comparisons. Maybe he plays a more minor character, but not a major villain.

By the way, do fanboys not watch any channels other than BBC America, AMC, and HBO? I always see the exact same actors suggested for every role-Jon Hamm, Cranston, Mangiello, Cumberbatch, Elba. Seriously, there's over 200 channels on Dish, Direct TV, and most really big cable providers. Expand your viewing habits a little. Lol

Benedict Cumberbatch has become the British equivalent of Nathan Fillion. The two of them should be in a buddy comedy called "The Things We Should Be In". That or "Little Fockers: The Teenage Years".

Oh and Cumberbatch is my pick to play Shortround in the Indiana Jones reboot.

Sometimes I hate this time in which we live. Let's cast for characters people—not actors with fan bases.
