Here's How Hayden Christensen's 'Anakin Skywalker' Was Going To Cameo In STAR WARS: TFA

While it appears as if the idea was scrapped fairly early on, some pages from the "Art Of" book for Star Wars: The Force Awakens have revealed how exactly Hayden Christensen's rumoured cameo as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader would have played out. Will we see this in Episode VIII?

While his presence may have been felt in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there was no physical appearance from Anakin Skywalker or Darth Vader in the movie. However, some new concept art has revealed that the idea to include the iconic villain was indeed brought up at one point, and details on that can be seen in the images below which come our way courtesy of Making Star Wars. Love or hate Christensen's take on Anakin Skywalker, there's no denying that it would be pretty fascinating to see him interacting with Luke, especially if his Force Ghost were to constantly shift from that form to Vader's. After all, his decision to kill the Emperor didn't exactly wipe away his past misdeeds or the the fact that he had committed himself to the Dark Side, so having him suddenly redeemed and back to his old self almost feels like a cop out. Regardless, with rumours pointing to the actor making an appearance in Rian Johnson's Star Wars Episode VIII, we may now have an idea about how the whole thing will play out! What do you guys think about this?

Eh, I' down with not showing hayden at all, he is too short to be any decent Vader anyway.

Vader's presence is better felt as a memory and a half-melted helmet.

Putting words in his mouth would only serve to deflate his mystique. The only way they should have him be a physical presence in any film is if they do some prequel from when he was alive, like a Force Unleashed-y sort of story. Or perhaps Disney will greenlight my script about two bumbling TIE Fighter pilots who piss off and become cantina musicians and develop a bitter rivalry with the Max Rebo band, but then the Max Rebo band is destroyed on Jabba's barge and the TIE Flutists (that's their name) discover that it was never really success they craved, but the respect of Max Rebo himself and the irresistible love of the beautiful Sy Snootles.

Anakin = Kylo Ren

Only difference? Anakin's turn to Dark Side is a lot more believable.

That was one of the best moments of the Prequels bro. I loved that duel, its hard to tell wich one was better, if that one or the Qui-gon/Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul.

I say go for it. I've love to see Hayden play Anakin again as a FORCE Ghost.

Anakin had the mental capacity of a gullible 10-year old in the prequels.
It was easy to turn him to the dark side.
Poor guy wasn't very bright.

A few bad dreams, and a line about 'dark side life saving abilities' and he's down at the temple killing children.

In any case, we don't even know enough about Kylo to determine just how his fall actually happened. We've only heard a couple of lines regarding the fact that it did happen.

I don't know how believable his turn was since I hardly know anything about him at all.

@Spock0Clock Vader´s mystique was obliterated in the prequels. I remember before that, imagine how great and interesting would have been the story of this guy in before he was wearing that helmet...an then we got emo Christensen. And I don´t blame him directly for that, but Lucas, for giving him so many weak reasons to turn to the Dark side. It would have been more powerful and meaningful if he just do it for its own conviction, and not being a fool manipulated.

I think its safe to say that Snoke provide Kylo with some form of "visions" posing as Vader. It would be weird and illogical if Anakin would have turn to the dark side again...

It will be awesome to see those actors playing those characters being directed by someone other than George Lucas. Ewan was awesome despite being directed by Lucas, imagine how good he will be with Rian. And to see an Anakin/Vader played with real passion will be a sight. I don't blame Hayden, that was George's doing

@Inhuman the problems wasn´t the actor, at least IMO, but the weak script that Lucas pull of for the prequels.
The things that i love the most was all the Jedi stuff the expose and develop. Maybe i´m one of the few, but i prefer a lor more the lightsaber fights of the prequels than the OT.

I like the concept but don't really need it in a film

They were just going to have Hayden be a background character who stubs his toe and yells "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!"

@DrDoom there is no need to try to put the prequels under the rug. If it fits well the history and doesn´t feel forced, it would be a great addition and would give this universe a more depth sense of connection.

It still ticks me off Sebastian Shaw got replaced at the end of "ROTJ" with Hayden Christiansen and the excuse behind the change is even worse. I am glad this idea didn't make it. Doesn't make sense and it would also show that Vader wasn't truly redeemed and his soul/ghost saved.

How horrible would it be if your dead father could use the force to contact you from beyond the grave??

@batman1216 well, i think that redemption can´t be defined just by numbers. But if you wanna take that approach, with that action (killing the Emperor), he could have save thousands or millions of lives if you think about it, but more important, he make that choice knowing only that it was the RIGHT thing to do, and for the love of his son.

For me, the prequels ruined Darth Vader as a character forever. Even in the originals, I can't watch without remembering that once intimidating badass is actually a whiny bitch who betrayed everything he stood for over a bad dream.

@Nivekian Hayden Christensen is 6 feet tall. I seem to remember hearing George Lucas say that his height being close to to Vader's was one of the reasons he cast him.

God bless you all! God bless everyone!

Well, let's see if Rian Johnson gives Hayden the direction GL may have needed to give him, during the Prequels, if rumors are true that Hayden will be back as Anakin in Episode 8 in some sort of way.

He should get the chance to redeem himself in some fans eyes. I mean, even generational fans of the SW saga like myself who are fans of Hayden's work as Anakin in Star Wars, we have to accept the fact that he came under a lot of critical heat. And, we can't act like it never existed or ignore it, cuz it was definitely there. And, we also have to see that Hayden is like us ordinary people, a genuine nice guy, a loving and caring father to his toddler daughter and a generous human being, like a majority of us. I hope Rian gives him the direction he may have needed working with George since George ain't known for being an actor's director, not to offend him, though, cuz I do love the Prequels, and will defend them til my passing. And, I think after the Anakin Skywalker that was well-crafted for Clone Wars by Lucas, Dave Filoni and Matt Lanter, we had an Anakin we could root for. So, I hope Hayden returns as Anakin in Episode 8, just to show all the PT haters, who's boss now.
