Ian McDiarmid Comments On Returning As 'The Emperor' In Live-Action STAR WARS TV Show

The highly anticipated live-action Star Wars TV series still doesn't seem any closer to happening than it was the last time we got an update, but Ian McDiarmid has shared his thoughts on whether he would be interested in returning as 'The Emperor'.

Appearing at a Q&A session at the 'Star Wars Celebration VI' convention, British actor Ian McDiarmid revealed that he would definitely be interested in appearing in the long talked about live-action Star Wars TV show, reprising his role as 'The Emperor'. However, it doesn't sound as if he's spoken to anyone involved with the project just yet as he went on to express a desire to further explore the origins of the villain (something which would be unlikely as the series reportedly will bridge the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

"It would be nice if one day they would be followed up...who knows? Who knows if Palpatine would be in it? It could be like A New Hope. There could be a terrific representative -- and by god, Peter Cushing was a terrific actor -- doing the emperor’s bidding. If he happened to pop up in the script I would hate if it was to go live and someone else were to be in it."

Many thanks to IGN TV for the above quote. Would you like to see 'The Emperor' return in the series? Comments earlier this year from Rick McCallum have indicated that the series would focus on, "the Empire slowly building up its power base around the galaxy, what happens in Coruscant, which is the major capital, and it’s [about] a group of underground bosses who live there and control drugs, prostitution." This would probably mean that the focus would be taken off the Jedi and Empire, although it certainly wouldn't be bad thing to see cameo appearances from iconic characters like 'Darth Vader' and 'The Emperor'.
