J.J. Abrams Shooting STAR WARS EPISODE VII In IMAX?

The official Twitter account for J.J. Abrams' production company Bad Robot have sent out a photo which seemingly confirms that Star Wars Episode VII is at least partially being shot with IMAX cameras, just like Star Trek Into Darkness before it. Hit the jump for details!

J.J. Abrams shot roughly 30 minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness with the IMAX cameras, so it perhaps shouldn't come as too big of a surprise that he's doing the same for Star Wars Episode VII. This confirms that the movie - which isn't coming to this year's San Diego Comic Con due to the tight production schedule - will be released in the format though, a first for the franchise. What we see above is abviously a photo taken on the Abu Dhabi set that's doubling for Tatooine, and this sort of sweeping landscape is perfect for the gigantic IMAX screens. What do you guys think?

Everyone cares. It's an important piece of history rather than just a passing thought that I wanted to confirm. Everyone cares. I'm glad you're giving this important topic the attention that it deserves.

It's not a first for the franchise. I saw Episode II in IMAX way back in 2002! Waste of a screen if you ask me but THIS one should be good

There was no IMAX in 2002. Not the way its filmed now. Just a movie projected onto a really big screen.
