Keri Russell On The Possibility Of Re-Teaming With J.J. Abrams For STAR WARS

Keri Russell, a frequent collaborator and favorite of J.J. Abrams talks about joining the director for the next installment of Star Wars. She was almost in Star Trek and is close with Abrams so this is a real possibility. Continue on for the interview.

TV Line sat down with Keri Russell to discuss her new show The Americans on FX and briefly touched on the possibility of joining J.J. Abrams on Star Wars:

"It spoiled me to work with JJ and Matt (Reeves) [on Felicity]. Not only do I love them as people because they're so funny and easy and good but they were just so talented. I've worked on other projects and you get the script and you're like 'but why isn't it good'.... In response to the question of who she's playing in the new Star Wars film: "Anyone he lets me play. I'm waiting for my call", she jokes. I would do anything for JJ, honestly I would do craft service. And when asked if she's a Star Wars fan: Yes, of course. And now with my son, that's all he talks about.

Interesting enough, we know that Matthew Vaughn pitched for the director gig with Chloë Moretz as a female lead in the new installment. With the script already in place from Michael Ardnt perhaps that's a clue that the main protagonist of the next Star Wars films will be female (the internet chatter among critics and bloggers certainly leans in that direction)? Russell previously worked with Abrams on Felicity which launched both their careers into the upper stratosphere. She reunited with the director in 2006's Mission: Impossible III, Abrams first big, feature film and was in talks for an unspecified role in Star Trek but schedules didn't align. We'll have to see if Abrams and Russell can connect for Star Wars.

Sorry, they should use any original cast members they can, for their original roles, but everyone else should be an "unknown".

I think she could do a good job as something in the new Star Wars. No problems with it. The more I think about it, the more I see Abrams as a version of Joss and we all see how well that has worked out for Marvel.

Met Keri Russell on a film job just months before she got super-famous with FELICITY. Now that I have successfully name-dropped I have nothing else to say.

ndwwrestler2 so you can count... I know what it is and what Star Wars is so move somewhere yourself. People just expressing opinions... What this is page is all about. Doesn't mean she is right for the part or even the director for that matter.

@animeex I know. I know. People expressing opinions, I get that. Maybe I came off a little too (jerk)ish to you. My bad. I was simply just responding to your opinion with one my own.

You say that Star Wars is taking a down spiral. My thing is, How can you take a down spiral when you have JJ Abrams and Michael Ardnt on the project instead of George Lucas? Because although I liked the prequels, they were nowhere near the original trilogy, because of the dialog and character development.

Ardnt and Abrams will not have that problem, I'm sure. And I don't see how Keri Russell joining the cast could be a bad sign to be honest.

That's my opinon, and I apologize if how I responded to yours was insulted you.

ndwwrestler2... My turn... Sorry if the backlash came out wrong too. I do hear you. I am hoping for a good flick and I so agree on the Star Wars blunder Lucas did. I mean Darth Vader's biggest bad move was killing children?? So bad. I was also happy to see Lucas sold it to Disney. I am not a Russel fan. For the things I have seen her in he is like a soso actress and the friend next door. I could be wrong though I admit. I want a hotter more kick butt lady if that is the direction they are going with. JJ may do great. I just am a little worried that he will cross some Trek with Star Wars. I liked Trek but wanted more. I am always open though til I see some previews or read up on what you guys might say. Thank you for the reply my turn to say sorry.
