Last week, Mark Hamill and
director/writer James Gunn began what appeared to be
initial conversations about the
Star Wars actor appearing in a future
Guardians of the Galaxy film. The exchange took place over on Twitter, but it's hard to say if anything will ever actually come of it. Still, it was enough to send the internet into a frenzy and during 13th Annual Oscar Wilde Awards, Hamill was asked about the conversation. Recounting how it all came about, Hamill explained:
"Isn't it crazy? I was just sitting there.. I mean, I used to do crossword puzzles or the jumble. Now I'll have Twitter on and some person says 'Hey, James, why don't you bring Mark Hamill into the next Guardians of the Galaxy. And, to my surprise, James answered, 'Well, he lives right around the corner. Maybe we'll have coffee and we'll talk about it.' So I answered. I said, 'I would be happy to do so not only as a good neighbor, but as an unemployed neighbor.'"
Hamill admitted he doesn't know if anything will actually come of the conversation, but added,
"I'm just thinking it's so funny how these things happen."
The interview then shifted to another conversation James Gunn had on Twitter regarding whether Hamill would save a Porg or a baby Groot if he had to save one. Hamill incorrectly answered that Groot could regrow himself (
read Gunn's explanation about Groot and Baby Groot here), but he was mostly concerned about peoples' willingness to eat Porgs.
"I'm really disturbed by how many people are looking at Porgs as potential menu items. Roast Porg, all this stuff. Really, a Porg should be a pet, not on the menu," Hamill said.
"In the movie, Luke eats fish. He doesn't eat Porgs. So I don't know. It's very disturbing. People can't resist the pun of Porg chop. I think that's what started it all."
