Reports from a Scottish news website reveal that the director of this year's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will start filming in their country next June for his Star Wars trilogy. Unlike past films in the billion-dollar franchise, Johnson's trilogy will be separate from the Skywalker saga.

The filming will take place in locations from northern Scotland such as Argyll, and in surrounding areas from a major road named Rest And Be Thankful.

Writer and director Rian Johnson expresses his excitement for his upcoming project:

"I’m in the very beginning phases of coming up with it so right now the sky is kind of the limit. The appeal of it to me is to do a new story told over three movies, to have that kind of canvas, to be in the Star Wars world and to have the feel of a Star Wars film. [...] Let’s tell one story over three movies, where we go to new places and meet new people. It’s a brand new story that feels like a great Star Wars story."

There is currently no information or confirmed release date on Johnson's Star Wars movie.
