RUMOR: First STAR WARS Spin-Off Lands ORPHAN BLACK Star Tatiana Maslany As The Lead
Here's a hot rumor to start your day: It is being reported that Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany has been cast as the lead in the first Star Wars stand-alone film, which is being directed by Godzilla director Gareth Edwards. Come check it out!
Take this with a grain of salt, but the first in a planned set of spin-off Star Wars films may have just landed its leading lady. Total Geeks is reporting that the always excellent Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany has landed the coveted lead role, beating out the likes of Academy Award-nominated actresses Felicity Jones (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), in the Gareth Edwards-helmed stand-alone adventure. Details about her role are scarce, but the report does confirm that the role is the lead in the 2016 film.
Although any news of her casting should still be considered a rumor, it does come fresh off the announcement that Maslany had to pull out of an Off-Broadway play due to film scheduling conflicts. The most obvious conflict would likely be her demanding work schedule on Orphan Black, but wouldn't she have been aware of her OB shooting schedule prior to signing up for a play? Could this mean that Star Wars is indeed in her future? If so, she would be a fantastic get for the franchise.
What do you guys think of Maslany's potential casting? Who do you think she's playing? Sound off with your thoughts below!
