Domhnall Gleeson left a lasting impact on Star Wars fans in The Force Awakens as The First Order's General Hux, a Hitler-like fanatic who seemed like a credible threat to the Resistance. In The Last Jedi, he was relegated to comedic relief in an effort to humanise him, and revealed as a traitor in The Rise of Skywalker after his hatred for Kylo Ren led to him feeding intel to the enemy.
It was a baffing twist, and one that appeared to culminate with the villain being killed off. It was also quite a departure from what Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow had planned for Hux as he was going to take his own life with a lightsaber once it became clear the Resistance had the upper hand on Coruscant.
During a recent interview with The Wrap (via SFFGazette.com), Gleeson was asked if he'd be open to returning to the Star Wars franchise to better explore what made Hux tick. "Of course I would," the actor initially responded with enthusiasm. "He was really interesting, and I think there’s a lot I could do more [with him]."
However, he went on to admit, "I don’t see them making the call. I’m not sure anybody’s clamoring for a Hux sequel or prequel. But yeah, of course. Those movies are amazing."
Gleeson isn't wrong there, and it will likely boil down to whether Lucasfilm chooses to explore some of the gaps between each chapter of the sequel trilogy. We don't know for sure whether Hux actually died, but there's currently no indication that the studio intends to explore what happened after The Rise of Skywalker, either!
What we do know is that Hux's father was instrumental in the formation of The First Order, so there's always a chance we'll see that character appear in one of the post-Return of the Jedi stories being told like The Mandalorian or Ahsoka.
