Ahead of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's release, the entire plot for the Skywalker Saga finale leaked online. Aside from a few minor changes, what we saw in theaters matched those leaks, but there was some uncertainty about the fate of Kylo Ren.
The leak mentioned that Emperor Palpatine threw him into a chasm, but nothing was said about his eventual return and death. Since the movie was released, we've heard conflicting reports about an alternate ending for The Rise of Skywalker which would have seen Ben Solo survive or exchange some dialogue with Rey.
USA Today's Sariah Wilson recently spoke to Daisy Ridley, and confirmed that there is no version where Ben lived, and that the only things about the scene that changed were what Rey said when the former Supreme Leader of the First Order died, and whether there was always going to be a kiss or not.
We'll share the quotes from Ridley when we have them, but this definitely debunks some of what we heard about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker following its release in December 2019.
The movie looks set to remain the most divisive chapter in the Skywalker Saga, though it certainly has some strong competition thanks to The Last Jedi. As much as some fans would love to see the sequels rebooted, that isn't happening, and Lucasfilm appears to be focusing on telling stories set before this trilogy (a follow-up at some point would definitely be interesting to see).
