STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER "Art Of" Book Reveals The First Order Targeted The Children Of Rebel Leaders

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker scrapped a subplot with Jannah being revealed as Lando Calrissian's daughter, and the movie's "Art of" book has now shed some light on The First Order's machinations!

Big chunks of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ended up being cut from the final film (#ReleaseTheSnyderCut!), but the newly released "Art of" book for the final Skywalker Saga movie has revealed fresh intel on just how horrific Emperor Palpatine's actions were as he ruled over the First Order as the sinister Supreme Leader Snoke!

It's said that the villain purposefully targeted the children of the leaders of the old Rebellion in a bid for vengeance, hence why Ben Solo was turned to the Dark Side and became Kylo Ren.

"The first people that the First Order targeted were leaders of the old Rebellion; they went for their kids," The Rise of Skywalker screenwriter Chris Terrio explains. "They went for Lando's daughter. They went for Ben Solo, which begins to make more sense when you look at the wider context of their machinations -- the long-term plan."

Jannah was meant to be revealed as the daughter of Lando Calrissian, while an earlier version of The Rise of Skywalker was meant to show Finn meeting a long lost sibling. Both of the Resistance heroes were victims of Project Resurrection, a First Order operation with the aim of capturing thousands of children from across the Galaxy and reconditioning them into Stormtroopers.

He may have been hanging out on Exegol a shell of his former self, but Palpatine was clearly as evil as ever during his exile, and it's horrific to learn what lengths he went to for revenge.

This is one movie where 15-20 more minutes runtime could have answered so many loose plot threads.

@Saintsinnister - Or perhaps a copy of the Visual Dictionary under every seat in the theater?

@SuperCat - Yep.. They really had no plan for the story and just made up things as they go.

@kylo0607 - I guess we should give them credit for not going with that banal subplot. It's difficult to even read about that idea and keep a straight face.

Well, thanks to TRoS the long term plan didn't make any sense to me. Even though I had to do some reading on the wikia, I thought I finally figured out Palpatine's contingency. And then Episode IX happened...
