STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Novelization Addresses Possible THE FORCE AWAKENS Plot Hole

Many fans have had some big questions about certain decisions made in The Force Awakens for years now, but The Rise of Skywalker's novelization potentially solves at least one of those. Check it out!

As we mentioned a few days ago, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's novelization includes an interrogation scene between Kylo Ren and Chewbacca which sheds a little more light on their relationship. However, another excerpt has found its way online today (via Screen Rant) which could address an apparent plot hole from 2015's The Force Awakens

At the time, many fans found fault with the decision to have Rey so easily defeat Kylo Ren in the final battle, especially as she had never wielded a lightsaber up until that point. On the surface, it just didn't make sense that she would get the better of someone clearly well-trained in the ways of the Force!

Well, as has been theorised on multiple occasions since, it was all down to Chewbacca shooting him.

"'I have not forgotten that you shot me,' Kylo said. That wound had resulted in a defeat at Rey's hands," the book reveals. "Had he been in top fighting form, the scavenger never would have gotten the best of him." Well, that explains that (for those of you who have still been wondering), but with so many plot holes in The Rise of Skywalker, this has been forgotten about for the most part.

Throw in the fact that Rey was Force-sensitive even back then, and it's no wonder she was able to get lucky that day. Of course, it's a shame this wasn't better explained at the time because it might have lessened the amount of people dubbing the character a, sigh, "Mary Sue."

Regardless, the new Star Wars trilogy is likely to remain divisive for the foreseeable future and, like the prequels, it should continue generating discussion among fans from now until the end of time!

How that fight should've actually gone down:

@BlackBeltJones - he was shot. In the abdomen. The plot hole should be how was he fighting.

@Origame - yea. he was beating that wound like the pain was a minor obstacle.

@BlackBeltJones - thats your interpretation. But thats clearly not what they were going for. Clearly that wound was intended to be a major obstacle for him when dealing with the fight.

@Origame - That is very clearly what they were going for, do you think he was hitting it to point out to Rey he was wounded and it wouldn't be a fair fight?

I think she beat him because originally she was Luke's daughter he was more skilled than her cousin and when she "awoken" she remembered those skills, because before she "Woke up" she was getting her arse handed to her.

Man Disney [frick]ed this trilogy up hard!

@nikgrid - 1) dude, i work out. I can tell you that, when you get into a physical activity with an injury that gets in the way, hitting it numbs the pain so its easier to go on.

2) so now you're going on fan fiction? You're going out of your way to hate on it.

@Origame - "hitting it numbs the pain so its easier to go on."

He's still the grandson of Darth Vader and a Skywalker, Rey should not have been able to beat him...also I'm not sure you are supposed to go on if it hurts.

@nikgrid - 1) again, he was shot in the abdomen. He lost because he let his anger choose to fight rather than get medical help.

2) and yes. I wasnt supposed to. It was a stupid risk and i admit that.

@Origame - He lost because Rey had "Plot Armour".

@nikgrid - yes, that plot armor of...having your opponent shot in the abdomen.

Rey didn't beat Kylo at the end of FA. She only barely fought him to a standstill and most of her tactic was just blocking and running, even though he was seriously injured and emotionally compromised. This was obvious in the actual movie.

@FinnishDude - That would have been a good way of going about it, actually. But she slashed his face and disarmed him, seems pretty apparent that she won. He was on the ground and defenceless.

@Nebula - I mean, she has lived her entire life on a planet where survival of the fittest is the rule and clearly can handle herself in a fight, so getting a lucky shot isn't unreasonable.
