STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER Star Anthony Daniels Says C-3PO's Originally Had A Much Bigger Role

Legendary Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels has revealed that C-3PO was originally set to play a much larger role in The Rise of Skywalker, and sheds some light on what exactly that was going to entail...

The new Star Wars trilogy has often been criticised for the way it treated characters from the original films. R2-D2 and C-3PO were often sidelined, for example, and even though the latter was given a slightly more meaningful role in The Rise of Skywalker, actor Anthony Daniels has now confirmed that many of his scenes were cut.

During an interview with IGN, the legendary Star Wars actor told the site that Threepio's arc was once considerably larger. "There's an awfully lot of editing after you've finished filming, so C-3PO's role was even sweeter and broader than that," Daniels admitted.

"But some of those niceties have to go because there's so much in that film already, it's almost two films in one, as you know," he continued, adding: "I was a little sad about that, particularly his relationship with Poe, played by the wonderful Oscar Isaac. That was just so sweet and so funny, because Poe was always kind of irritated by C-3PO, but in a nice way."

The relationship between Poe and C-3PO was definitely touched on, and Daniels went on to praise director J.J. Abrams and writer Chris Terrio for still giving his character "something worthwhile" to do for his final appearance as the fan-favourite droid. He did, however, drop some hints that a return could happen somewhere down the line, so we'll have to wait and see on that front.

Were you guys with Threepio's role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker?

He barely knew any of them. Threepio, R2 AND Chewie should of had much more to do. My anger grows with every article on this film. Soon I'll turn full sith ☹

I still think his memory wipe should've been permanent (just like Chewy's death), but all that was ruined so that they could make a joke at the end.

Kinda OT: but I don't really remember, but did Hux die? Or did Pryde or whoever it was just shot him in the belly?

He still has more screen time and more to do than he did in either of the previous films or any of the prequel trilogy films. The movie has its problems, but I really liked C-3PO’s role in it.

Of course he did but they had to cut it down because Kennedy wouldn't let an original character have more screen time than one of her new characters....

a larger role at the bequest of Anthony Daniels of course.

Considering ROS felt like 2-3 movies edited down to one, I'm not surprised.
