INCREDIBLES 2 Director Brad Bird Isn't Keen On A Marvel/Pixar Crossover But Remains Interested In STAR WARS

Ever since Disney purchased Marvel, fans have been wondering when they'll see Pixar adapt a comic book. Now, Brad Bird weighs in on why that's not the best idea and reiterates his interest in Star Wars.

Since The Incredibles came out, superhero movies have taken off in a big way and Marvel Studios is mostly responsible for that. Common sense says that since Disney purchased Marvel, Pixar probably should have moved forward with a comic book adaptation of some sort as that combination would no doubt result in a guaranteed hit (the closest we've come to that is Disney Animation's Big Hero 6).

During a recent interview to promote the upcoming release of Incredibles 2, director Brad Bird was asked for his thoughts on a crossover and while it's been discussed, it doesn't seem to be happening.

" I've heard it discussed, not with me in particular, but I've heard it sort of thrown around a little bit. But at Pixar we've always felt like Marvel is Marvel, and Pixar is Pixar, and Lucasfilm is Lucasfilm. And they serve everyone better, including Disney, if they're separate. If you start crossing them too much it's like when you blend too many colors together, it starts turning into mud. So, that may make a marketing guy's mouth water but I don't think it makes artists excited."

That's a fair point and while it would be interesting to combine these worlds, they're all managing fine by themselves and don't need each other to succeed. So, there go those hopes of a Star Wars/Guardians of the Galaxy crossover movie! Talking of a Galaxy Far, Far Away, Bird went on to share an update on his ties to that universe after it was previously reported he turned Lucasfilm down.

"Well, I've known Kathy Kennedy a long time. And I've known George [Lucas] quite a while too. And certainly, that's a very fun universe and if I could think of something that would be perfect for that I would give Kathy a call, absolutely. They've sort of said if I have any notion that would fit in that universe to please contact them. I mean, I saw Kathy a week ago 'cause they were mixing Solo down the hall from us up here. So, I wouldn't rule that out. But I also have a lot of other ideas I'm very anxious to do."

Seeing the filmmaker tackle Star Wars would definitely be a lot of fun but like that Marvel/Pixar team-up, it appears as if we'll just have to wait and see what happens for now. What do you think?

I swear, I've already seen a comment on Youtube wondering why the Incredibles weren't in Infinity War.

Someone actually wanted a Pixar/Marvel crossover? Why?

@BlackBeltJones - We kind of already have one. Granted it's not Pixar, but it is CGI animation. Big Hero 6 is based on a Marvel comic, and is getting a animated tv-series and maybe a sequel in the future. I don't mind Disney/Marvel crossover on that level, but a CGI animated Avengers movie from Pixar? No thank you, Pixar's best movies have always been there original work. Just look at recent years (Inside Out and Coco where definitely better than Finding Dory and Cars 3).

@Tcb97 - Big Hero 6 I always got. It was verrrrrrrrry subtle. I thiught they meant a big crossover.

@BlackBeltJones - People often dream of studios or publishers doing one thing or another that they think will be a good idea, or will revitalize or save a property without considering the possibility that it may be a terrible idea. Like crossing over the Disney owned properties or using Flashpoint to reboot the DC Films Cinematic Universe.

@Kevwebsz - That would be so amazing if they could properly pull that off with a blend of CGI and live-action.

@Kevwebsz - Imagine if Disney bought Square Enix. Or better yet (maybe worse), Studio Ghibli.

"Deadpool 2 is better than Infinity War." I can't believe it!

I'm just waiting for Pixar to crossover their already existing movies. Who wouldn't want to see Toy Story 4: Wall-E Edition.

I would like to see an animated Incredibles and Fantastic 4 crossover if they ever do one.

I've always been really surprised there was no follow up Marvel/Disney Animation movie after BH6. Seemed that movie being so successful would've made another collab a no brainer

Don't really care about a Pixar/Marvel crossover. I just want Tron to take place in the MCU.

Have absolutely no interest in any crossover, but it would be interesting to see Pixar do something full of adventure from Marvel like Devil Dinosaur and Moonboy!

I don’t like Pixar movies but people love them and they do their own thing to great effec so they don’t need to nor should they bother adapting Marvel or Star Wars. Those worlds are already being handled quite well like Bird says. But considering my absolute love for Ghost Protocol anything Brad Bird wants to do in the world of Star Wars I would be excited to see.

Marvel/Pixar? Not so much.

But I would like to see Walt Disney Animation Studios take more advantage of the properties that they have at their disposal.

A Star Wars Disney movie could be good. Could be very good, actually. Musical, too. Don't scrimp on the musical aspect. (you're all hating me, right now, aren't you? Hey, couldn't be any worse than The Last Jedi).

Also Thor would be a good fit. It would have to be it's own thing, of course. Musical there, too.

Pity they can't do a Spider-man or Superman, because they would be perfect for Walt Disney Animation movies.
