TERMINATOR: DARK FATE Spoilers Reveal Some Major New Plot Details About The Reboot/Sequel

Terminator: Dark Fate is expected to put the franchise back on the right track after some disastrous efforts, and now some possible spoilers from a test screening have revealed some major plot details...

Remember how the critically panned Terminator: Genisys took place in an alternate timeline? Well, it now appears as if that will also be the case for Terminator: Dark Fate. According to multiple outlets, some huge new details from recent test screenings have leaked online, and they reveal that the story takes place shortly after the events of Terminator 2: Judgement Day

We've known for a while that Dark Fate would ignore the third, fourth, and fifth instalments of the franchise, and it's said that after their defeat in the second movie, Skynet is well and truly gone (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines found a way to bring the villainous AI back).

However, it looks like Skynet has been replaced by a group called Legion, and they send a new Terminator back to kill John Connor - a character who is in the movie but not for very long.

Once he's been dealt with, Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes, who plays the world's new saviour) becomes a target and Rev-9, the advanced Terminator played by Gabriel Luna, is sent back to take her out. Another resistance group rises to combat Legion, and they're the ones who send back Grace (Mackenzie Davis) to protect Dani.

It all sounds very Terminator-esque, but is it not just more of the same? We'll find out later this year.

Mackenzie Davis is clearly playing a robot created by Skynet meant to blend in with humans, but she seems convinced that she's real, and that could be where Arnold Schwarzenegger's character comes in - assuming he explains to her that the villainous organisation uses real people as the basis for their machines. Either way, she's pictured here alongside Natalia Reyes.

Sarah Connor's return has generated an awful lot of excitement and with moviegoers demanding badass female leads, it's pretty clear that she will be filling that void. This is an amazing shot, and while Emilia Clarke was fine in the role as a younger version of Sarah, it's good to have the real deal here!

Gabriel Luna's Terminator can clearly replicate himself, and he now has a name: Rev 9. Right now, we don't know what that's referring to, but speculation is running rampant that it could have something to do with the Biblical verse. A combination of both the T-800 and T-1000, he looks pretty damn formidable and could be the coolest villain this franchise has had yet. Well, maybe!

Arnold Schwarzenegger was barely featured in the trailer, so it's good to see him getting some action here. Rumour has it he's playing the human that the T-800 was based on, but could be be Carl, the owner of Carl's Draperies. That would be weird, but it's feasible!

Tim Miller was working with a limited budget on Deadpool, so it will be interesting to see how he handles this leap to blockbuster filmmaking with a massive budget. Should the movie flop, that will set his career back quite considerably and probably means this series is well and truly a lost cause.

@Feralwookiee - At least this time they have what made the first 2 films great
Cameron
Hamilton
Schwarzenegger
if it is actually good, hopefully they bring Ferlong back

@dracula -

So the resistance beats Skynet, but then Legion (another AI?) comes into power and does the exact same thing Skynet tried to do, only they target a Mexican woman who'll be their John Conner?

If this is true, it's the definition of plot recycling. They're basically just renaming the enemy.

@Humperdink - hopefully its different, if it is basicaly the same plot, then yeah it confirms that it should have ended with Terminator 2

What was said in the spoiler was that humans further developed an AI program and called it LEGION. It launched Judgement day in the 2020's, Grace is sent back from 2042, where the mexican chick is the resistance leader.

The rev9 is sent back to kill her. In the meantime, Sarah has been hunting terminators which have been sent back in time and is given coordinates to their location via GPS texts

So i guess yeah its recycled

The way I see it, and so should every life form in the known universe, the Terminator franchise ended after Judgement Day.

This post has the spoiler wrong. The t800 which kills John was sent back by Skynet, not Legion.

Well this sounds like it’ll be the worst one yet... which is quite an achievement in itself

No source, and its Judgement Day, not Judegment Day.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Apparently the guy who confirmed the leak on Reddit has a good track record and has done this kind of thing before. He's an industry insider registered with the SAG apparently. He leaked BvS, Justice League and TLJ (after the premiere I might add), along with other films. Now it's possible he is an industry insider who has knowledge about these films, but I don't think he's seen them.

For starters if he really is an industry insider he's an idiot for risking his career to leak a film on the internet and I hope he gets caught.

Secondly most leaks are detailed whereas this one isn't. Those who had seen it never mentioned the ending, who Grace was, who sent her back, why Dani Ramos is so important. Not to mention when asked about these things the guy who confirmed them refused to explain them.

Thirdly anyone can come up with a leak. You just use the trailers, set pics and information about it to come up with a leak that sounds like it could be true. For instance the T-800 is apparently called Carl. But there's a picture of Arnie stood in front of a van with Carl's Draperies on the side of it, so it's easy for the leaker to say he's called Carl because we can't dispute it.

It's why I think the leak is fake. Because these days it's just too easy to come up with a plot that seems credible when there's no detail to it. The less details you have, the easier it is for the leaker to get some stuff right when the film comes out. It vindicates them.

To me the leak is either fake or they've seen a cut that doesn't include the ending. I'm going with the former.

"they send a new Terminator back to kill John Connor, a character who is in the movie but not for particularly long. Once he's been dealt with,"

Welp there went my interest in the movie.

One of the things I always wanted was to see was John grow up into the badass fighter we were always told he would become. Maybe even have him be a badass alongside his mother.

How often do you get a badass mother-son duo?

@shadowspider9 - didn't we see future John in one or more of the failed terminator movies?

@Vigor - "...have him be a badass alongside his mother." Do you not know how to read?

Can you?

@shadowspider9 - Personally, the first two films were more Sarah's story, so I don't mind them killing John.

Also, from what I hear, all the reactions to the test screening itself were actually positive, so who knows.

@Nerdman3000 - Sarah was certainly the driving character. But T2 showed John had a lot of potential with his hacking and grifting skills.
It would be like introducing Robin in a Batman movie and then just killing him off at that start of the next movie.
I'm not saying John should be the focus. But he could be a great character in his own right and you could build a very interesting relationship between him and his mother.

@Vigor - With mixed results, unfortunately.
T3 played John as a broken man traumatized by what happened as a kid. He starts off in a similar shell shocked state as Sarah once she finds out Terminators are real in T1. The problem is he doesn't really grow like Srash did by the end.
T4 had John as a soldier but he was basically a minor character.
