The Vatican Criticises PROMETHEUS For Its Portrayal Of The Origin Of Mankind

And no, it has nothing to do with some of the plot holes which left many moviegoers feeling underwhelmed! Instead, the official newspaper of The Vatican ("L’Osservatore Romano") have rather predictably attacked the film for its portrayal of the origin of mankind.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the official newspaper of The Vatican ("a spiritual touchstone" for over 1.1 billion Catholics) has lashed out at Sir Ridley Scott's Prometheus following its release in Italy last week where it opened with $1.3 million. They take issue with how the film portrays the origin of mankind, claiming that it is "a bad idea to defy the gods." They also go on to say that Prometheus, "mishandles the delicate questions raised by...the battle eternal between good and evil in yet another attempt to steak the secret of immortality." Showing a clear lack of understanding of the premise, they argue that "the journey of Prometheus should instead symbolize the search for the supernatural." This isn't the first time that The Vatican have lashed out at Hollywood, although they took it easier on Prometheus than the likes of Avatar and The Da Vinci Code.

In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system's natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers. Ridley Scott, director of 'Alien' and 'Blade Runner,' returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

"a bad idea to defy the gods."
I could have sworn Catholicism was monotheistic....

well that took longer than I expected. I presumed they would have boycotted the movie before it even hit but what ever!.

Promotheus main problem was how dumb these so called "scientists" were. The characters acted like they were in a bad teen slasher flick not a sci-fi movie.

I believe Ridley Scott's fictional take on the origin of mankind is more believable than the Vatican's fictional take on the origin of mankind.

Well, at least Prometheus' view is more accurate than the other's "view".

Wait, Prometheus was fictional? Damn... I thought that it was a documentary, kinda like those paranormal activity movies. Good thing someone told me. BTW, do you guys know how the clean up in NYC is going after the chitauri attack? I can't find any info on it.

The Vatican criticizing this movie is pointless. Its a new age science fiction story!! Have they even watched a Ridley Scott movie before?? What do they expect but New Agery??....The gods??....There is only One God and he don't dress like that, heh! heh! (Love Avengers). I watched this movie and it was kinda pointless and has so many holes!!

Oh so apparently we're to believe the entire human race came from two people right? So basically Adam and Eve humped, had babies, those babies humped, and so on and so on. Explains why they're such retarded people in this world...apparently we all derived from incest.

Come on. If you believe we have a god and he created us in his image...go you. If you're offended that someone else has a different view and/or made a sci-fi horror movie based on this other idea, you need to get your head examined. No one is forcing you to watch the movie. I don't recall but did the Vatican get this bent out of shape over Indiana Jones Crystal Skull? Besides the fact that movies sucked.

Prometheus was a plot hole filled movie, but when that enginner appeared on screen in the beginning of the movie, it felt more awe inspiring then reading about a women getting the ribs of a man, and then pulling an forbidden apple from a tree.
