TheCritic17 reviews AVATAR

Just saw Avatar and I ask this question: Was it the best film of the year or just another end of the year action flick??

Well… I have just seen Avatar. Like Access, I agree that this is James Cameron’s magnum opus. I have nothing else to say… I guess just read the review and find out what I thought.

Avatar is by far James Cameron’s best film of all time. (I like starting with something positive :) ). Everything about this film was great!!! Let’s see why. By the way, this is spoiler-free.

The story was AMAZING . You guys know the basic story. Sam Worthington plays Jake Sully, who is a paralyzed marine. He goes to Pandora (a planet with beautiful life and on it lies the Navi, its people), in an Avatar and falls in love with Neytiri, then he decides he with the Navi, not the humans. (That is all implied/seen in the trailer). So, the story was magnificent. The first hour doesn’t pull you in as well, but it was still good then. But, after that first hour I was just sucked right in.

The actors were phenomenal in this movie. Sam Worthington is truly a magnificent actor. I only noticed his accent one time in the film. He has just launched what I expect to be a major film career. Zoe Saldana is also brilliant in this film. While you don’t actually see her, her voice and body movements truly represent the style and attitude that her character projects. Sigourney Weaver is fantastic as usual. She’s tough, and knows what she wants, I like that. Weaver is good in anything though. Stephen Lang is also brilliant as the film’s main villain. I won’t talk about everybody, but every other actor/actress in the film (even Michelle Rodriguez) made the movie fantastic!!!

The effects were OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! I saw the film in IMAX-3D. I was at ahh at how Cameron put you into this brand new world filled with all this life. The 3-D really does put you into the movie. The action and explosions (uh oh, spoiler alert there :) ) were same old Cameron, FANTASTIC!! But, really just the CGI and the life Cameron put into this remarkable planet and all the creatures on it really made the movie work.

Well, I have to say… this is by far the best film I’ve seen all year!!! This was just a great movie!! Hands down the best of the year (not of all time, it can’t beat the Shawshank Redemption on me). So I award this movie…:

4 out of 4 spectacular stars.

P.S. Can’t wait for the sequel!!!
