As we get ever closer to the Academy Awards, the many categories are being narrowed down to the appropriate number. Tonight, the short list for the Visual Effects list was taken down to seven, including two comic book movies and a few other fan favorites.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World will be joining Iron Man 2 and Inception on that short list which honors films for their achievements in visual effects. Also on the list is Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1, Hereafter and TRON: Legacy.

Members of the academy's visual arts group will be viewing 15-minute segments of each of these films on the 20th of January. The final five movies will be announced on the 25th.

Good to see. I'd say the nominated movies should be...
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Inception
Iron Man 2
Scott Pilgrim vs the World
Tron Legacy

All deserve to win because all had great visuals.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, ftw!!!!!

And why is Inception up there? I mean...the movie was flat-out amazing, but visuals? I guess..there was nothing too flashy, but it stands up there I guess.

my guess on the nominees would be;
Inception
Tron: Legacy
and I want it to be Iron Man 2 but it'll probably be Alice in Wonderland

TRON
Inception
Alice In Wonderland
Harry Potter
Scott Pilgrim

With Inception winning. I don't think it will win best picture, so this will be it's big moment.

@ Fartman - Because Inception deserves to be up there. It's the film The Matrix wishes it could be. And it also urinated all over most of the films that came out last year :)

I hope they don't give it to harry potter... Good movie and all but Trot, Scott Pilgrim, and Inception were so good and good looking.

@Gaston
Yes, I saw it twice in theaters. I'm not saying it's not awesome enough to be up there, I just didn't see much for "Visual Effects" really. I mean...I don't know. It deserves the Best Picture award in my opinion, I just don't see the Oscar for Visual Effects there really.

@RyKnow Agreed, lol, it had diarrhea over a whole bunch of films that have come out lately lol.

Yeah, that was good and all but other movies have done stuff more extravagant than that. Don't get me wrong, all those scenes were mind[frick] but other movies have done crazier stuff. Hell in "Constantine"? Giant walking lizard in "Godzilla"? Everything in "Lord of the Rings"? Inception should be on the Visual Effects list, of course, but not 100% the only deserver of the award

I would probably vote for Tron. Inception is the best movie up here I think it should get more oscars than this. I didn't really like Scott Pilgrim it was just sort of dumb and over the top and yes I know it is based on a graphic novel but it was sort of strange.
