Despite mostly positive first reactions, the reviews for Shazam! Fury of the Gods were nowhere near as glowing as they were for the original (it actually dropped to "rotten" status on Rotten Tomatoes shortly after hitting theatres), and audiences seemed to be just as indifferent to the DC Comics adventure.
The superhero sequel struggled to pass $100 million worldwide, pretty much guaranteeing that a third film is off the table.
Where does that leave star Zachary Levi?
"A business is a business," the actor said during an appearance at Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) when asked about his DCU future. "So, they don't tend to make more products of something that didn't make them the money that they wanted, right? I would love to keep playing this role. I am literally paid to be an immature version of myself. I would highly recommend. But, I don't know. And I haven't had any conversations about it. So, I'm just kind of here, living life!"
Levi added that he does wish “we were doing much better” at the box office, but still feels David F. Sandberg made an "objectively" better movie this time.
“I think ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ is objectively actually a better movie than the first film. A lot of people don’t think so. F— those guys,” he joked.
