SHAZAM! Star Zachary Levi Talks Possible Suit Upgrades In Hypothetical Sequel To DC's Upcoming Blockbuster

Neither DC nor Warner Bros. have confirmed a sequel to David F. Sandberg's Shazam! But we can assume plans are likely already in place pending its box office performance (it's already a critical darling). Even director David F. Sandberg and producer Peter Safran have been open about returning for any hypothetical sequel, so it's not like it hasn't crossed anyone's mind. That includes star Zachary Levi, who plays the titular hero.

As someone who dons the suit in the film, Levi was asked in a recent interview with BadTaste.it if there are any improvements to the costume he would like to see made in a sequel.

"I think my suit is awesome. All of the upgrades are things that I would want to do that would just kind of make it easier for me to wear and move around in," Levi explained.

The actor elaborated: "They're built for an aesthetic more so than movement or practicality, let's say. I would just love to work with our incredible costume designers to see if we could figure out a way where I could, I don't know, go to the bathroom more easily. Or figure out the wiring in it if we still do that, or how that may incorporate into the belt or the boots. I don't know. All of that's above my pay grade and DC and everybody are having conversations."

Levi was also aware that any changes made to the suit for a possible sequel would likely come with conversations regarding the character's look in comic books.

"And also, what does it look like in the comic? Do we need to match the comic? Should we match the comic? So many conversations, but what we started with is awesome," Levi said. "But I think, as with most things in life, there's always room for improvement and I would love to look into that."

In the interview, which you can watch below, Levi also discusses the inspirational messaging of the movie, its diversity, and how he thought he didn't initially land the role due to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's casting as Black Atom.

Shazam! opens in theaters on April 5.

One of the benefits of that padding that so many of us hate is that you can get the LEDs into that chest unit. There is no substitute for practical lighting elements.

Every now and then I laugh at the fact about 3-4 months ago we all collectively stopped caring that they really put this guy in the most obvious of muscle suits

@OmegaDaGrodd - Well, Shazam ain't Batman. I've always thought that the adult Captain Marvel reflected some degree of Billy's cartoonish ideal of superheroes, so it looking fake wasn't a dealbreaker for me.

Also, it really helps when you put a person in the suit that is genuinely likable. These movies still operate on the Tinkerbell Effect to a large degree and nobody wants to be the sole sourpuss not clapping.

I can't wait to see this but does anyone else find the lit-up suit cheesey looking? Reminds me of black lightnings suit which I've disliked from day one.

Yes, the BIG RED CHEESE's costume looks cheesy. It's also red.

@Reeds2Much - maybe I should have said cheap or even corny, regardless I was actually asking for legitimate opinions, not sure what your comment was aiming for.

This movie looks great but I would have preferred the button flap suit.
