Back in February, news broke that Warner Bros. and New Line's Shazam: Fury of the Gods had added another major cast member in the form of up-and-coming West Side Story actress Rachel Zegler. No details on her part were provided at the time, but it has since come to light that she'll be playing the youngest of three villainous sisters.
Now, more info on her character has come to light, and while she most likely will be playing one of the three "witches," it sounds like there's going to be quite a bit more to her role.
According to Murphy's Multiverse, Zegler's character is named "Anne," and she'll actually be introduced as a schoolmate and possible love interest of Freddy Freeman's (Jack Dylan Grazer). However, a rooftop scene involving Anne sporting some kind of golden armor was also described, which obviously suggests that she's not just an ordinary teenager.
Our best guess is that Zegler is playing the unnamed youngest daughter of Atlas alongside Hellen Mirren's Hespera and Lucy Liu's Kalypso, but that she's posing as Anne in order to get close to and ultimately manipulate/betray Freddy, possibly in an attempt to turn him against his friend Billy Batson (Asher Angel).
Director David F. Sandberg debuted the first teaser for his Shazam! sequel last night (you can check that out here), and we also have some set photos giving us a first glimpse of Zachary Levi's redesigned costume.
Shazam: Fury of the Gods is set to hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
