EMPIRE Actor Cosplays As SPIDER-MAN; Campaigns For Role In Future Reboot

Obviously we know the next Spider-Man will be played by Tom Holland, but that hasn't stopped Empire's Bryshere Y. Gray from appearing in full cosplay for an interview with Paper Magazine and campaigning heavily for the role. Miles Morales, perhaps? More past the jump...

Tom Holland will suit up as Spider-Man in Marvel's Captain America: Civil War next year, and then reprise the role for his solo movie in 2017 - but that hasn't stopped actor Bryshere Y. Gray, a.k.a. Yazz the Greatest (Hakeem on Empire), from throwing his webshooters in the ring to one day don the iconic blue and red.

"I'm young and pretty and I represent the youth in America and speak to them in a way no one can at this time," Gray told papermag.com. "I'm the American Idol. And I like to climb and fly through the sky and also would look amazing in the Spider-Man outfit." Humble chap, eh? To be fair, Gray may not have to wait for the franchise to be rebooted again, as it's entirely possible Marvel/Sony will cast Miles Morales to share the screen with Peter Parker, echoing recent events from the comics.

Do you think Gray would make for a good Spidey? Here are some pics from his photoshoot to help you decide.

Actually it's been stated Marvel will be skipping the origin story. So yeah, there's that.

I'm sure they'll just gloss over it with a quick montage or something.

How would they even introduce Miles Morales in the movies? I'd hope it wouldn't involve him hogging the spotlight in a solo Spider-Man movie. Really, without killing off Peter, Miles is honestly a kinda pointless character, that is at least as far as the movies go. The two coexisting can work in the comics because we've already had years of history with Peter, in the movies we still need more time to develop him, time I don't think they can waste by introducing a second Spider-Man.

A black Spider-man would be more familiar with unfair treatment than the one that listened to Dave Matthews Band.

Speaking of Donald Glover's bit about Spider-Man...

It's worth noting, the first episode of season two on Community opened with a shot of Troy (Glover's character) wearing Spider-Man pajamas. A subtle reference to or endorsement for Glover & Spider-Man.

Know who directed that episode?? Joe Russo! (For those who don't know, the Russo brothers were co-showrunners for seasons 1-3 of Community.) And given the Russos' current status & their deal with SONY, maybe with their blessing and/or involvement we might see a live-action Miles Morales sooner than later. (I've suggested they should do a live-action TV series with Miles Morales as Spider-Man, with Peter as Spider-Man in the movies. And 8-13 episodes a season would be ideal for budget & CGI/sFX reasons. Maybe they use the TV series to "iron out" different CGI/sFX techniques to use with movies' Spidey.)

I mean it was Russo's shot of Glover in the Spidey pajamas that helped inspire Miles Morales:

..."Bendis credits the inspiration for Miles Morales to the opening scene of the season two premiere of NBC’s Community that featured Glover clad in Spider-Man pajamas. It was, in Harmon’s words “a cutesy inside wink to the Donald Glover for Spider-Man campaign” and the ensuing controversy, bringing our story full circle.

“He looked fantastic!” Bendis recalled. “I saw him in the costume and thought, ‘I would like to read that book.’ So I was glad I was writing that book.”

Glover has reacted humbly to his part in the creation of a new Spider-Man, tweeting overnight “So fly,” before adding this morning to Bendis: “Just wanted to say ‘wow; and thank you for doing something really cool and interesting! You’re tops.”
