SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME Star Jake Gyllenhaal Refuses To Comment On A Possible Return For Mysterio

Mysterio's "death" at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home appeared to be pretty definitive, but Jake Gyllenhaal has refused to address Quentin Beck's future leading to some Sinister Six speculation...

Spider-Man: Far From Home star Jake Gyllenhaal recently took part in a Broadway Q&A with Google to promote his show, Sea Wall/A Life. As you can see below, many of the questions were dedicated to his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one, in particular, seemed to really catch the actor off guard.

Asked if he could reprise the role of Quentin Beck/Mysterio in a Sinister Six movie, Gyllenhaal joked about Marvel's snipers (shouldn't that be Sony's snipers now?) and ended up dropping his mic in a bid to avoid giving an answer.

It certainly appeared as if Mysterio had been killed at the end of the sequel, but he is a Master of Illusion at the end of the day and the entire movie was meant to make us think twice about what we were seeing. Now, the character's future is in Sony's hands, and there's no denying that it would be amazing to see him cross paths with the web-slinger again given what happened in that mid-credits scene.

Time will tell on that front, but for now, the two most likely candidates for Spidey's next big screen foe appear to be Kraven the Hunter and Venom.

Will Sony be able to use the villains established in the MCU? Both Vulture and Mysterio became bad guys because they hated Tony Stark?

Can they appear, but just not talk about all the assets and characters that Disney owns?

@santoanderson - they'll be villains of Stony Tark intelligent, rich, charitable, pimp

Gyllenhaal was a great as Mysterio, but I lost interest now that Spider-Man isn't part of the MCU. The new movies are going to be full of plot holes and redacted scenes. I'm going to stick to watching Into the Spider-Verse.

@TheDoctor1225 - ehh, I don't think Far From Home went out of its way to confirm he was dead. Did they say he was dead? Yes. Should you believe that? No, especially considering that the footage Beck released to the public was different than what actually happened in the final battle. And Peter only asks if all the illusions are down, not if Beck was actually dead. Would be pretty easy to bring him back, and enough people involved with the film have hinted that this will be the case.

Mysterio was the best part of Far From Home, Jake gave a great performance and regardless of whether his next appearance is in the MCU (I personally have a gut feeling that everything will work out), I look forward to seeing him again.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Yo, what did you think of FFH?

@MCUKnight11 - my thoughts:

It was pretty good, not great. Better than Homecoming, Mysterio was terrific and the best part of the movie, what a great villain (better than Vulture too). First hour was quite slow and a bit of a drag at times, the teenage high school drama was good sometimes and then boring and dry other times. 2nd half of the movie though was very good with some stellar Mysterio scenes, really enjoyed the second half. The movie kind of shifts with the Mysterio and Spidey team up fight against Molten Man, and then becomes really interesting when Mysterio reveals his true plans at the restaurant. Its upper mid tier MCU.

Maybe Marvel got Jake and Michael Keaton by telling them this would be one off because Spider-Man wouldn't be in the MCU for long(doubtful)

I wonder if there's some language in their contracts, if they signed multi year deals, about this. Like if Sony takes them away from the MCU does that give them an out or are they still contractually obligated to these movies? If they are I can see some weird convulted movie where Sony has Tom Holland's Spider-Man transfered into Garfield's (probably recast) and he's figuring the sinister six or something

@TheDoctor1225- yes, this is true that he took a flash drive, and clearly that had this fotoage. But we see Beck talking to the camera and telling the camera things that we never saw him say during the final fight. And, it seems kind of clear that Beck always planned for, or had a back up plan to reveal Peter's identity to the world. The doctored footage would indicate this was always part of the plan, and if so, then he always anticipated "dying." Beck is a master of manipulation, if he can fool everyone into thinking he was a good guy, then he can also fool everyone into thinking he is dead... don't trust anything he says or shows you ;-)

Regardless of who was at fault for the deal falling apart, the new movies, if they use characters and actors from the MCU, but can’t reference the MCU, will feel like a cheap knockoff off a brand name product you’d find walking the streets of Thailand.

Coming up Spiden-Man fights Mystery Man with the help of Justice Squad lead by Super America Man and Steel Robot Boy

The collapse of the Sony/Disney deal & aftermath has been more entertaining than anything MCU related this year apart from Ali cast as Blade

Personally I hope Holland doesn’t get to be in the MCU just because of how funny his Spidey films & the MCU Will be without referencing each other & being spearheaded by Rothman & Arad. I can’t wait to see what disastrous films those minds come up with lmfaooooooo

Holland will go back to the MCU someday but by then the MCU will have to involve Tom Hardy’s Venom & I said months ago how Sony would want their billion dollar Spidey & 850 million dollar Venom to team up but nobody believed me & guys like @jeight called me stupid lol

Blame Disney for this mess. Why on Earth should Sony give even 20% of box office to Disney when the only person at Disney involved in the Spidey deal is Feige & I doubt he would get all 20%. It’s a damn shame the face & heart of Marvel won’t be in the MCU & will have a faith worse than death being in the hands of Arad & Rothman but Holland has Zendaya on speed dial so I can’t feel too upset for the kid

To be fair, we never had confirmation that he was dead. All EDITH said was that all illusions were turned off.
But it's easier to fool someone when they're already fooling themselves;
Quentin could've created the illusion of getting shot by his drone for Peter to watch, then pretending to lie dead on the floor. Since Spider-Man left without making sure, first, that the authorities find the supposed dead body, nothing stopped Beck from getting up and disappearing.
It's really not that hard to come up with an explanation for a possible return. It's just that his death seemed to be a nice way to end his story, as he created a legacy as big as Tony's.
Even in Death I'm The Hero. Cute little foreshadowing.

@Reeds2Much - really? I thought it was the end? Either way not only is this Mysterio we are talking about but he also recut footage with new dialogue which yes could be CG but I think says that he faked it and came back just to screw with Peter

I believe Mysterio is dead as much as I believed Earth-199999 was Earth-616 and that Mysterio was hopping dimensions and being heroic.

THis is gonna be a tough transition. All of the tech from all of spidey’s baddies come from MCU tech. If they bring back vulture, the tinkerer, etc they will need another form of power.
