MORBIUS Star Jared Leto Reveals Whether He Plans To Don The Living Vampire's Classic Costume (Exclusive)

Michael Morbius has a very distinct costume in the comic books, and Morbius star Jared Leto has now revealed whether that was ever considered for this movie and if he'd suit up somewhere down the line...

Later this week, fans will finally bear witness to Oscar-winner Jared Leto's latest comic book transformation as he becomes the Marvel Universe's Living Vampire in Morbius. The character has a storied history in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, but is going it alone in the Sony Pictures release.

In the movie, we find Dr. Morbius ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering the same fate. A desperate gamble at first seems to be a radical success, but a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil – or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?

Throughout his many appearances on the page, Dr. Michael Morbius usually wears a unique, dare we say it, flamboyant costume. Talking to Leto last week about his role in the movie, we wondered whether that classic look was ever considered for the anti-hero's upcoming big screen debut.

"We talked about it, and decided for the first film it probably wasn’t gonna happen," Leto confirms in the video above when asked about suiting up. "There are some pretty great examples in the early comics and ideas of where we could go in the future if we suited up. That could be a lot of fun actually. I like a lot of those elements. The artwork for me was a great source of inspiration."

So, no costume in this movie (which we expected), but the actor is clearly open to the idea. There were once rumours that the outfit might factor into Morbius, but that alleged plot leak appears to have been a fake based on what we've seen in the trailers. With this origin story out of the way, a sequel or any other future project could easily give Michael that classic look, though we'd expect a few tweaks!

Check back here soon for more from Leto and to read our review of the Marvel Comics adaptation.

Morbius will be released in cinemas on March 31.

Bad or not. I’m still going to go see this movie. I’m not a DC Fanboy or a Marvelite, I’m just a comic book fan overall and we’re living in a time when the likes of Morbius and the Umbrella Academy are realized in live action. What a time to be a comic book fan.

@WruceBayne - that’s a good take, I completely agree. Of course we want these movies to be good, but honestly we’re getting so much content and seeing characters in live action that I never dreamed of seeing. I mean, we’re getting a Moon Knight series this week! 14 year old me would’ve laughed in my face if I told him all the things we’re getting. A great time to be a comic fan indeed!

@WruceBayne - I’m same way if comic trailer gets my attention I will see it but wandavision didn’t do it for me same with what if.,

I’m neutral to marvel and dc there are a lot of people who like complain about dc movies which makes look like I hate marvel all I do is bring up bad options marvel has done that marvel fans easily forget talking about dc movies

@Waddles - I agree with this rant. For instance I did not watch new mutants. Tried to bu it was like dream warriors but without dying in their nightmares and I realized, I’m dying in mine, and I cut it off, before my face got smashed into the screen by a bearrr or somethin. When there’s more to watch, we can be picky. So I will be.

No matter how the movie turns out... the look and design of Morbius is great.

Doubt he’ll get the chance. I have a feeling they are going to pretend this movie doesn't exist if it flops. No chance of being in the multiverse, no nothing. It’s like getting shot by that gun in Drive Angry. You simply don’t exist anymore.

Probably will catch this for Matt Smith. His performances are usually a highlight in everything I've seen him in.

I seriously cant look at Morbius without him saying Heee heeeee Chamone!.

The design is 100% on point, but it has such a big Michael Jackson vibe

Michael Morbius/Jackson was Born!

This is why the MCU should have complete creative control over every single Marvel character. Imagine the costume selected for him if he was incorporated in the new Blade or Spider movies. An entirely accurate one. Costume, accent, and everything. Ethan Hawke would have been my choice. I’m glad they scooped him up for Moon Knight though

It’s one of those things where I could care less about his suit being comic accurate because I doubt there’s much comic accuracy going on for the morbius movie.
