After years of uncertainty and rumors relating to Charlie Cox's potential return as Matt Murdock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the star of Netflix's scrapped Daredevil series was given the opportunity to reprise the role for a brief scene in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Along with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's respective returns as "Variant" Spider-Men, Cox's part in the movie was actually leaked ahead of time, but the actor was still forced to lie about his involvement during interviews.

Now, Cox has revealed exactly when he got the call from Kevin Feige, and it seems he had to keep his secret for just under a full year.

"I got the call midway through lockdown, Summer of 2020, and we filmed Spider-Man in March of 2021... so I had to keep it secret for almost a year. So yeah, it's been intense," the actor told HeyUGuys. "It's a relief to be able to talk about it. Y'know, getting that phone call was a life-changing moment, really. My involvement with that character and the MCU was dead and buried, I hadn't heard anything for a couple of years and so I'd moved on. It was incredibly unexpected and out of the blue."

As it turns out, Feige has a pretty good poker face himself! Before the Marvel Studios boss officially reached out to Cox, he went to see him in a play he was preforming in with Loki starTom Hiddleston, and never once mentioned the possibility of the actor returning as Daredevil.

"I did a play in 2019 with Tom Hiddleston and Kevin Feige came to see our play. And, Y'know, I went and shook hands with him and said hi and he said how much he enjoyed the play. Never mentioned Daredevil or anything like that. So it turns out he's a very good liar as well (laughs)."

We still don't know when we'll see Cox back as Murdock/The Man Without Fear, but he's rumored to appear in several upcoming Disney+ shows before getting his own solo series or feature.

Both this and Sebastian Stan's recent comments really make realize how casual of a dude Feige is. Could make a big deal out of things, but he really just doesn't.

@bkmeijer - impressive how much of a strategist Feige seems to be

@Fogs - Ya know, I know that I tend to gush quite a bit about Kevin's strategic capabilities in some of my posts, but I really think that he's earned it by now. I mean, imagine if we took one of the best posters on this site and gave him a (more or less) unlimited budget, all while culling the collective wishes for these characters and funneled that all into the guy in charge of The MCU. I mean, Kevin is as big of a geek as the rest of us are. He just happens to be the big geek calling the shots. And I'm glad that he has the confidence in the future of The MCU (which I think he has earned), that he can go see a play with Cox in it and not even bring DD up, even though in his head he probably has DD's future planned out for at least the next 5-10 years. If it were me I would probably lose my shit and be like "Hey Charlie first we're going to have you show up in the ___ show and then the ___ show before you move onto the ___ show and then that's all leading up to a DD moving with you and ___ and ___ and ___"). But Kevin is just like "Good play". Stone cold right there ;)

@RorMachine few typos in there kiddo, might want to proof read. Normally - not a big deal… but last time you deleted my post and re-posted the news as your own, you tried to say it was because of the same thing (which given my screenshots of the article, was a completely false statement in which Nate also agreed with me contained no obvious mistakes). Cat meets Kettle, Kettle says Hello Kitty.

I always love these stories. Paul Bettany's for when he found out about Vision is simply incredible.

I wonder if he'll get a new suit or if they'll carry over the suit from the show? To be honest, the suit from the show kinda looks like something Marvel would already do for Daredevil in the MCU anyway.

I’m so glad he’s back, he definitely deserves it.
I can’t wait to see his new suit and finally see him interacting with more MCU heroes and kicking ass.

The role really should be one that is highly sought after amongst actors. There's so much to work with with this character. The blind aspect, the lawyer job, the Catholicism, and the crime fighter thing. All while being a cool mf.

Charlie Cox nailed all those things and then some.
