SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Star Tom Holland Says The Script Was Sometimes Being Rewritten As They Were Shooting

Marvel Studios productions have a well-known reputation for being somewhat chaotic, and based on new comments from Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland, that was definitely the case with this movie.

Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland has had nothing but good things to say about the movie, but the journey to get the finished product to the screen doesn't sound like a particularly easy or straightforward one. While the production was by no means troubled, it sounds like another Marvel Studios movie that faced challenges along the way (which, in the past, has yielded great results...like 2008's Iron Man).

Even as cameras started rolling, Holland tells GQ that a number of key cast members still hadn't signed on. "Some people were trying to figure out whether they wanted to do it, and we needed all of them or none," the actor explains before the site confirms that the decision to release No Way Home before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness required changes to the plot.

"You could ask the director, ‘What happens in act three?’ And his response would be, ‘I’m still trying to figure it out,’" Holland says, revealing that this did cause some issues during the "crazy" final battle.

"I kept stopping and being like, ‘I’m so sorry, I just don’t believe what I’m saying." Director Jon Watts took him to one side and, "We sat down, we went through it, and we came up with a new idea. When we pitched it to the writers, they rewrote it, and it works great."

While there has been speculation about Peter Parker receiving some help during that final battle against some of the Multiverse's greatest villains, Holland once again addressed rumours about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield with what's become a familiar answer. "No one believes me, but they’re not in the film." We understand why he can't spill the beans, but no one is buying that at this stage!

It appeared there were some unfinished visual effects in the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer released last night, so it's possible those rumours that Sony is rushing to finish the movie will prove to be correct.

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. on December 17 and in the UK on December 15.

This movie is really playing with my emotions right now. It has the potentiel to be the best in the trilogy, but all I can think of is that it's gonna fly too close to the sun and crash down to the bottom of the list. Please be good.

That's always a good sign.....but is it?

@billnye69 - I think it depends on the extent of it.

If we take TROS for example, that isn't the best trilogy capper Disney has put out where that happened

I read some leaks (which have been partially confirmed by the trailers), but I guess we cannot believe any of the leaks 100% as the script was constantly changing. Wonder even if the leaks factored into it.

@bkmeijer - I really hope they changed it. The whole plot of this movie is based around a course correction from the last film (where they really left Sony in a corner with that identity reveal in the last three seconds), but if the leaks are to be believed, this movie takes one step forward and two whole steps back.

If you've read the leaks, you know what those two steps are. I really hope those do not exist as part of this film anymore.

I want to like this franchise.

@bkmeijer - the trailer kind of lines up with leaks

@abd00bie - Then I believe the comment below is going to be tragically prophetic.

Peter being framed for murder then instantly forced to kill is way more tragic than whatever Joker had goin on

What if they're telling the truth about Tobey and Andrew not being in it, and Lizard actually was kicked across the face by an actual invisible Spider-Man... like Miles? 👀

But yeah Tobey and Andrew are totally in it 🤣

I know I a lot of people are questioning their excitement for this film after yesterday’s trailer, but man o man I think we’re in for something special. Go big or go home.

Good to see more confirmation that Garfield and Maguire are in it by denying that Garfield and Maguire are in it.

I don't like going against the grain but.. (or maybe I do).. the forced humor flat out ruined that trailer for me. It's like an assembly line of cringey jokes that are mandated by Marvel to be in there because that's their brand. It's gotten to be distracting to the point where I'm rolling my eyes.
