SPIDER-MAN: Donald Glover To Star In A Movie Based On... The Hypno-Hustler!

No, it's not April yet. Donald Glover is reportedly set to star in and produce a new Sony Pictures Spider-Man spin-off based on an obscure Spidey villain known as the Hypno-Hustler...

Donald Glover will finally get the chance to star in a Spider-Man movie... kinda.

The musical artist/actor has long been a fan-favorite pick to play Miles Morales in live-action, and actually made a brief appearance as the character's uncle, Arron Davis, in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Now, THR reports that the Atlanta star will suit up as an obscure (like, really obscure) Spidey villain.

Glover is set to star in and produce a Sony Pictures (SPUMC) movie based on none other than... The Hypno-Hustler!

Antoine Delsoin made his Marvel Comics debut in the pages of Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man No. 24 in 1978 as the leader of a band called the Mercy Killers, who used hypnosis technology to relieve his audiences of their valuables. The character was a product of the disco scene of the time, which may suggest a '70s setting.

Apparently, Glover "sparked to the musical aspect of the character and the fact that he has less Marvel cannon baggage, freeing him to greater interpretations."

The script is being written by Myles Murphy (son of Eddie), who is said to have a unique take on the concept that also piqued Glover's interest, though specific details are being kept under wraps.

I love Donald Glover but this is just as random as making a movie on El Muertro. He is talented and it looks like this will be at the very least tongue-in-cheek. I don't like these pointless Sony spin-offs but this would could work if it doesn't take itself too seriously.

We should be mad at Sony but Glover as well for be interested in such an asinine role.

Seriously, him trying to do this movie sounds like a plot for an episode of Atlanta.

.........you already took Vulture out of the mcu for your dumb universe, now you are casting an mcu actor in a villain role that nobody has heard about, when you could have used him for the character he played and marvel probably isnt using

@dracula - for real! Like, why isn’t this a Prowler movie?

The hierarchy of the Venom universe is about to descend even further

@KWilly - Well, yes, clearly the hierarchy of the SPUMC is about to change. Here's what I think really happened, although I have absolutely NO evidence other than what I've read on conspiracy websites and those cryptic little messages that I keep finding inside my fortune cookies (I know that they're trying to tell me SOMETHING, I just haven't figured it all yet - like, what do you mean "lucky numbers?!?):

Glover was probably paying close attention to what the Rock was planning to do with his obscure character (to the GA anyway), and thought "Hell, if The Rock can remake the DCEU in his image with a character like that, then I should be able to do the same thing with the SPUMC.". So Glover probably did a bunch a research, read a lot of (what was his name again? Oh, yeah, the Hypno-Hustler) comics, of which there are I'm sure a real treasure trove, then pitched his idea to Sony on how his character (at first a villain but then becomes an anti-hero) can reshape the SPUMC, and the Sony execs loved it. LOVED IT. Finally a focal point for the not-so-great attempt at a shared universe and everything was locked in.

So one night a month or two ago, after the deal was signed, Glover and his friends went out to celebrate his new gig as the new face of the SPUMC. After one too many shots he went to use the bathroom, slipped on the wet floor, and hit his head on the handle, then the top of the urinal, then again on the Botton of the urinal before hitting his head on the floor. He was rushed to the local hospital, but slipped into a coma, which He just came out of and after seeing the BO and critical results of "Black Adam", along with everything else going on at DC, snapped back into reality and got his agent on the phone asking "Oh shit os shit oh shit what did I do? No, cancel that shit right now! I don't care if I signed a contract with Sony! Cancel that shit! Cancel it!!!".

But, alas, he couldn't cancel it, and now will be forced to hype it for the next couple of years, which I imagine is going to go something like this: "It's, um, going, to, um, (do I really have to say this?) redefine the hierarchy of the SPUMC, as we see (what's his name again? Oh, right) Hypno-Hustler (Oh Jesus) face his greatest challenges in the form of, uh, El Diablo or El Muerto or El Mariachi or something and, of course, Morbius. Oh Christ just kill me now..."

Guys. It's a role for a black man.

Stop being racist. /s

@Origame - It's less people being upset over whatever it is you're trying to get at and more Sony, once again, scrapping the bottom of the barrel for another Spidey villain movie no one asked for.

This is a weird asf choice for a movie but the chance that we could get new Donald Glover music from this does have me pretty intrigued tbh...

“Donald Glover has long been a fan favorite to play Miles…”

No. He has always been too old since Miles is 13 when he becomes Spider-Man. He was a fan pick to play Spider-Man in the Amazing Spider-Man film which led to the creation of Miles.

The character is partially based on (or at least inspired by) him.

God dammit Sony. As much as I love and respect Donald’s creativity id much rather just see him return as Aaron Davis. Why do we have to make movies for the most obscure characters

Somehow they just made the El Muerto movie more appealing by comparison to this.

It's really weird but Donald is incredibly talented so if anyone could make this work, it's him. I'm guessing he likes the fact he can kinda just do his own thing with it without having to worry about being too faithful when adapting it. Could be pretty unique and exciting if done right... Could crash and burn spectacularly if done wrong.

Whatever the case, I hope this doesn't preclude him from eventually playing The Prowler in the MCU when Miles Morales is finally introduced.
