Alex Kurtzman On THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Sequel, STAR TREK 2 And ENDER'S GAME

The writer discusses why he and partner Roberto Orci were interested in writing the sequel to next month's The Amazing Spider-Man, while also revealing why JJ Abrams' Star Trek sequel won't be at Comic-Con this year.

In an interview with SuperHeroHype!, Alex Kurtzman discusses his involvement with Sony Pictures' already announced sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. He said that the main reason that he and co-writer Roberto Orci (whom Kurtzman has worked with on various projects in the past) jumped at the chance of writing the Spider-Man sequel was because they were impressed with what director Marc Webb has done with this summer's anticipated blockbuster. "We jumped on (it) because we were so impressed with the movie and what Marc Webb has done with the movie," he said. "I just adore Matt Tolmach, who is the producer of the movie, and everyone at Sony has been so supportive of us. We felt really good about it and really passionate about it. When you're growing up, if you're a superhero lover, it's like Batman, Spider-Man and Superman are the holy trinity of superheroes, so the opportunity to get involved with any one of those is like you get to let your kid play again."

"We're exec. producing as well and they've been very generous about letting us be involved with the process," Kurtzman continued. "But certainly what we don't want to do is step on any toes and we're really just there because we love Spider-Man so much."

Kurtzman also talks about the anticipated sequel to J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. Recently, it was revealed that an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con for the currently untitled follow-up was unlikely. Kurtzman (who co-wrote the script) confirmed that the film won't appear at SDCC, saying that the reason is because production was just recently finished. "Here's the thing about Trek. Part of why we delayed a year was because we didn't want to rush it, just because we feel very beholden to the franchise and we feel very protective of it and the worst thing we can do is to put it out there before we felt like we were ready and we were still working on the story."

Finally, Kurtzman discusses the film adaptation of the popular book series Ender's Game. "We're certainly huge fans of the book, too, so I think we felt extremely protective of it. I know that Gavin Hood, our director, really felt protective of it, and he wrote a beautiful script. Orson came in and gave us his blessing, which I think was a huge, huge thing for all of us."

The Amazing Spider-Man sequel hits theaters May 2nd, 2014; Star Trek 2 is set to be released May 17th, 2013; Ender's Game is scheduled for a November 1st, 2013 release.

I like Orci and Kurtzman, the script for Start Trek was brilliant, but they need to work closely with Vanderbilt on this one.

I know Nolanites that go to SLEEP hating on The Amazing Spider-Man, and the very first thing they do when they wake up is keep hating on The Amazing Spider-Man all day long,

What I find it funny is that they don't realize that this is worthless.

What the heck is Ender's Game, never heard of it (probably because I don't go to the bookstore often and look up books)? Looks like a bad rip off of Mega Man from the picture. Come to think of it, a Mega Man movie done right would be awesome.

The most pointless movie ever?? All movies are pointless.....thats what makes them fun. The world would still turn if no more movies where ever made, but damn that would suck balls.

I love Grif.

In my many months prior to visiting this site, he stood out amongst everybody else.

I love how people get mad at him, yet what he's doing is acting like any number of the more obnoxious users on the site.

He strikes me as someone that's being an intentional parody of the excrutiating amount of childish adults on here. And it's just so funny to see people get aggressive at him.

I hope beyond hope that Ender's Game translates well into the movies. I have some serious reservations (Gavin Hood), but I'm trying to stay optimistic.
The Amazing Spider-Man looks pretty good, so far. Very excited.
Star Trek was very entertaining, so I'm looking forward to the next installment. Besides, Chris Pine needsl to get more exposure so he gets cast as Daredevil :P
