RUMOR MILL: Christopher Daniel Barnes To Reprise SPIDER-MAN: TAS Role For INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE Sequel

While unconfirmed, it's being reported that Christopher Daniel Barnes may be in final talks to reprise his role from Spider-Man: The Animated Series for Sony's upcoming Into the Spider-Verse sequel.

In "Rumor Mill," we share the hard to buy rumors that don't come from reliable sources like the trades, but are still more believable (just) than what you might find on Reddit.

That Hashtag Show is reporting that Christopher Daniel Barnes is in advanced talks to join the cast of Sony's upcoming Into the Spider-Verse sequel. He is expected to reprise his role as the '90s Peter Parker from the fan-favorite Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which ran from 1994 to 1998.

They add that Barnes' Spidey isn't expected to play a major role, but will make a short cameo at some point in the film - appearing with his classic look from the '90s cartoon series intact and mashed together with the unique stylization of the Spider-Verse sequel - before showing up again for the sure-to-be action-packed finale.

He's not the only one that could show up, either, as THS notes that several other Spiders from a variety of different Spider-Man media will also appear. Talks with those actors are said to be still ongoing, so the final roster is yet to be determined, although it's hard to imagine there'd be any Spider-Man that would refuse the opportunity to join the Academy Award-winning franchise.

While THS does have a relatively decent track record when it comes to casting scoops, it's best to classify this one as a rumor for now. Until Sony makes an official cast announcement, nothing about the sequel - especially any surprise cameos - will likely see the light of day before the premiere.

The currently untitled sequel to 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel is set to swing into theaters on October 7, 2022.

They should definitely bring in Yuri to reprise his role as Peter Parker from the PS4 game too.

@SonOfAGif - I really hope not. It's too early in that Spider-Mans career for him to be doing multi verse stuff. It would be weird for a Spider-Man that's never even fought green goblin or venom and just fought ock for the first time would be experiencing the multi verse before any of that. Before even fighting his arch nemesis. It's weird for tom Holland's Peter too.

Doesn't Disney own the rights to this version of Spider-Man? They would have to okay this I would think. I hope it's true cause it would be amazing but still weird.

Not to mention you think Sony would take advantage of the other beloved Spider-Man show they actually do own.

Get the Kevin Conroy of Spidermen

@dracula -
I think Christopher Daniel Barnes set the standard for how Spider-Man should sound. Josh Keaton, Yuri Lowenthal, and most modern Spider-Man VAs are doing variations on his voice.

@dracula - I can't believe that this, out of all versions of spider man, is the absolute best. This iteration triumphs everything. It's such a travesty that we didn't get the third season

This is the Spider-Man I grew up watching. Would love to see him in the sequel.

@Himura - would also be interesting since this Spiderman already went through a spiderverse adventure. Even met Stan Lee. Not to mention the metajoke of him not being able to punch anyone.

@FinnishDude - I loved the cheesy parts of the show. It's fun to see an interpretation of a superhero before movies changes their public perception.

@MasterMix - I can live with some cheese, but the overall writing/story-arcs weren't very consistant. Like, ever notice how in season 5's wedding episode Liz Allen calms Harry down by confessing her love to him, yet those two had never been on-screen together in any other episode and Liz had been basically voiceless backround extra the whole show until that point? The whole show is full of weird/lazy writing like that.

@FinnishDude - Yeah, that scene never made much sense to me.

@Darkknight2149 - This version had Joe Perry do the theme song so you are correct.
