SPIDER-MAN: Sony Pictures Rumored To Be In The Process Of Casting Our Live-Action Miles Morales

There have been rumors that Sony Pictures might be developing a live-action Miles Morales movie since the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film swung into theatres in 2019, and last year, former studio head Amy Pascal appeared to confirm that tentative plans were in place.

“You’ll see all of it,” Pascal said when asked about the prospect of Miles making the jump to live-action during a red-carpet interview. “It’s all happening.”

Nothing particularly concrete, but rumors have persisted, and Sony was said to be interested in fast-tracking a Morales feature after the massive success of Into the Spider-Verse sequel, Across the Spider-Verse. Now, it seems we finally have some movement on the project.

According to reliable insider Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of The Hot Mic, the studio is in the process of casting an actor to play Miles in live action. He doesn't mention any potential contenders for the role, but if this is accurate, there's a good chance the trades will weigh in once a frontrunner emerges.

The question is: Will Morales debut in his own solo movie, or will the Sony decide to introduce him in one of the upcoming SSU projects? The fact that they're only casting now takes Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter off the table, so we'd say the former is more likely.

Could we see Miles voice actor Shameik Moore reprise the role in live-action? He has certainly shown interest, as has Hailee Steinfeld, who voices Gwen in the animated films.

“This is like my dream job, sign me up over and over again,” said the Hawkeye star during a recent interview. “I got to be comfortable! And it’s a dream to be in a space that feels so comfortable but also creative and free and just exciting to be a part of.”

Who would you most like to see play a live-action take on Miles Morales? Drop us a comment down below.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The voice cast also includes Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Shea Whigham, Jorma Taccone, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Brian Tyree Henry.

Can't wait! Bring it! I'd also say, give him his own movie in which Tom Holland has a cameo... I don't want him introduced in one of Holland's Spider-Man films

I believe this rumor. Recast Miguel 2099 in live action too. No offense to Oscar Isaac, but there needs to be fresher faces, fresher blood in these roles

They will probably have him appear in Spidey 4. What I'd prefer though is to have him appear in either a Tobey or Garfield movie and then bring him over to 616 during Secret Wars. But they won't do it the cool way. He'll just be some kid who gets bitten in a post credits scene.

@IronDean2099 - Wong will bring in characters from other universes to help. Robert Downey Jr will return, he’ll be playing a Tony Stark variant, as will Chris Evans as a Steve variant.

Nah, Shamiek is too old at this point. Let's get a teen, and Sony really needs to take a step back and figure out why so many of their superhero movies range from bad to mid. The Spider verse films are great, let's not break the streak with a lame live action version. If you're gonna do it, do it right.

I'm interested to see how they bring Miles into live action. Casting someone who is very similar to the animated version would allow them to continue Miles' story without retreading or undoing what we got out of the stellar Spider-verse films.

Casting someone entirely new would feel like a reboot, and create an unfair situation where we compare the two. While it would allow new writers and directors to do their own thing within the foundation of who Miles is; I feel like it would rob us of what the animated version accomplished.

I'd be quite happy if they just continued the story of the Spider-verse Miles but in live action in the MCU. And sorry to Shameik Moore, but I feel like he doesn't look youthful enough to convincingly play a teenager on screen, even if his voice acting for him has been superb. If they aged Miles up though, he'd be the obvious choice.
