A new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that Sony Pictures is currently in the process of casting an actor to play Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's Miles Morales in live-action...

There have been rumors that Sony Pictures might be developing a live-action Miles Morales movie since the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film swung into theatres in 2019, and last year, former studio head Amy Pascal appeared to confirm that tentative plans were in place.

“You’ll see all of it,” Pascal said when asked about the prospect of Miles making the jump to live-action during a red-carpet interview. “It’s all happening.”

Nothing particularly concrete, but rumors have persisted, and Sony was said to be interested in fast-tracking a Morales feature after the massive success of Into the Spider-Verse sequel, Across the Spider-Verse. Now, it seems we finally have some movement on the project.

According to reliable insider Jeff Sneider on this week's episode of The Hot Mic, the studio is in the process of casting an actor to play Miles in live action. He doesn't mention any potential contenders for the role, but if this is accurate, there's a good chance the trades will weigh in once a frontrunner emerges.

The question is: Will Morales debut in his own solo movie, or will the Sony decide to introduce him in one of the upcoming SSU projects? The fact that they're only casting now takes Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter off the table, so we'd say the former is more likely.

Could we see Miles voice actor Shameik Moore reprise the role in live-action? He has certainly shown interest, as has Hailee Steinfeld, who voices Gwen in the animated films.

“This is like my dream job, sign me up over and over again,” said the Hawkeye star during a recent interview. “I got to be comfortable! And it’s a dream to be in a space that feels so comfortable but also creative and free and just exciting to be a part of.”

Who would you most like to see play a live-action take on Miles Morales? Drop us a comment down below.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The voice cast also includes Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Shea Whigham, Jorma Taccone, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Brian Tyree Henry.

@Brondern - well guess we can't argue with that logic. You have to like it or you're racist. Guess even Halle berry is racist for not liking her catwoman movie. And we're all racist for not liking the steel movie 🙄

@Origame - People who say "Miles Morales isn't Spider-Man" or "Miles Morales is Miles Morales" are racist, that isn't comparable at all to the examples you just gave

Catwoman isn't even originally black in the comics so why would I be even mad?

@Origame - c’mon, Herman’s racism is pretty much his brand. Time and time again. It’s like the crazy old school uncle you just laugh at(inside) at the dinner table on Thanksgiving. So no surprise this dude doesn’t like this idea. Not shocking. Hey, I accept you, racist uncle Herman.

@Brondern - first of all, Herman isn't saying anything like that. He's saying "miles sucks".

Second, is this guy racist then? That weird, since he's black

Third, well spiderman wasn't originally black. So why do you care here?

@Brondern - Peter Parker is the real Spider-Man. Miles Morales is his anti white replacement, a cheap woke imitator who copies everything from his powers to love life and does nothing better than Peter Parker. Eff that character and his creators.

Every white character has a nonwhite version of themselves that exists as either a future version, alternate reality version, legacy version, or reboot version, while there are no white versions of nonwhite characters. The double standard is just anti white.

@Origame - Just checked the videos this guy makes, he makes videos typical of Fandom Menace grifters, just like Eric July/Young Rippa he is catering to a predominantly white conservative audience to justify their racist opinions lol

@HermanM - you really just used the word "woke" unironically

Also Stan Lee appeared in Into the Spider-verse handing a costume to Miles which is symbolic of his acceptance of the character and said anyone can be Spider-Man, so your argument is dumb
Origame
Origame - 6/21/2024, 2:17 PM
@Brondern - yes, they're catering to the white conservative crowd. That's also why youngrippa made a comic series featuring exclusively black superheroes written by exclusively black writers 🙄

@marvel72 - “He is not Spider-Man Peter Parker is and if you ask any random person in the street who is Spider-Man I bet the majority of them if they know of course will say Peter Parker”, Miles is referred to in the comics and movies as Spider-Man. If you hold up and picture of Miles and ask any random person what’s his superhero identity is, they’re going to say Spider-Man. That’s like saying Terry isn’t Batman because Bruce Wayne is.

HermanM
HermanM - 6/22/2024, 4:21 AM
@WruceBayne - Correct, because Bruce Wayne is Batman.

Ask anyone who Batman's real name is, they'll tell you Bruce Wayne. Ditto for Spider-Man and Peter Parker.

Because they're the real characters.

Can't wait! Bring it! I'd also say, give him his own movie in which Tom Holland has a cameo... I don't want him introduced in one of Holland's Spider-Man films

They will probably have him appear in Spidey 4. What I'd prefer though is to have him appear in either a Tobey or Garfield movie and then bring him over to 616 during Secret Wars. But they won't do it the cool way. He'll just be some kid who gets bitten in a post credits scene.

@IronDean2099 - Wong will bring in characters from other universes to help. Robert Downey Jr will return, he’ll be playing a Tony Stark variant, as will Chris Evans as a Steve variant.

Nah, Shamiek is too old at this point. Let's get a teen, and Sony really needs to take a step back and figure out why so many of their superhero movies range from bad to mid. The Spider verse films are great, let's not break the streak with a lame live action version. If you're gonna do it, do it right.
RedFury

I'm interested to see how they bring Miles into live action. Casting someone who is very similar to the animated version would allow them to continue Miles' story without retreading or undoing what we got out of the stellar Spider-verse films.

Casting someone entirely new would feel like a reboot, and create an unfair situation where we compare the two. While it would allow new writers and directors to do their own thing within the foundation of who Miles is; I feel like it would rob us of what the animated version accomplished.

I'd be quite happy if they just continued the story of the Spider-verse Miles but in live action in the MCU. And sorry to Shameik Moore, but I feel like he doesn't look youthful enough to convincingly play a teenager on screen, even if his voice acting for him has been superb. If they aged Miles up though, he'd be the obvious choice.
