Morbius opened back in April to mostly negative reviews, and it wasn't hard to see why. With the movie stuck on the shelf for an awfully long time during the pandemic, it appears Sony Pictures simply had too much time to tinker with the blockbuster. As a result, we were left with another messy Marvel Comics adaptation from the studio that had quite clearly been reshot and edited to death.

However, it seems that transforming Martine Bancroft into a Living Vampire was always the plan.

Concept artist Chris Nichols has shared some of his Morbius designs on ArtStation, revealing early vampire looks for that scientist, Dr. Michael Morbius, and Milo. "[I] really enjoyed working on this one and the artists at Digital Domain did a triumphant job bringing the creatures to life on screen," he says, noting that it was way back in 2019 that he originally worked on the movie.

Morbius looks more in line with his comic book counterpart here, and it's a real shame we didn't get to see more of the anti-hero in this form. Instead, Matt Smith's Milo seemingly received the lion's share of screentime in the second half of the movie, a baffling decision that once again feels like it might have been caused by significant changes to the story made during post-production.

Your guess is as good as ours when it comes to whether we'll see Morbius and Martine again as a sequel now seems unlikely. Sony appears to have something planned for its Marvel Universe, but whether Jared Leto and Adria Arjona will be interested in reprising their respective roles is hard to say.
