Sony Pictures (via The Direct) has shared the press notes for Morbius, and Oscar-winner Jared Leto has now opened up on sharing the screen with Michael Keaton. The Spider-Man: Homecoming star will reprise his role as Adrian Toomes, but what that means for this franchise, and potentially the wider Multiverse, is impossible to say right now.
After watching Spider-Man: No Way Home, the only thing we can assume is that The Vulture - who knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man - was inadvertently pulled to another world when Doctor Strange cast his spell in the movie's final act. The other possibility, of course, is that he's a Variant.
Either way, it sounds like Leto had a blast working with The Flash actor. "One of the great things about being part of the larger universe is you get to plant Easter eggs - you get to pull on some other characters to jump in and join your party and surprise people. I couldn’t think of someone I’d rather work with than Michael Keaton - he’s one of my favorites."
Leto also shared his thoughts on being the first actor to breathe life into Michael Morbius on screen. "I was excited about taking on the challenge of putting a character on screen that had never been on screen before. It gets harder and harder to find, and that was unique about this - a Marvel character that had never been portrayed outside of a couple of episodes of a Spider-Man cartoon."
Morbius is a far cry from playing The Joker in Suicide Squad, especially as there won't be the same expectations with this anti-hero as there were with the Clown Prince of Crime. That could be of great benefit to the actor given the divisiveness that surrounded his portrayal of the iconic Batman villain, and we're certainly intrigued to see what he brings to the table as the Living Vampire.
Morbius is set to be released in theaters on April 1.
