Charlie Cox On SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Return, Unused DAREDEVIL Moment, And More

Charlie Cox has shared more details about his much-discussed return as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, revealing that there was a clever little Daredevil reference that ended up being dropped.

We've heard quite a bit from Charlie Cox about his long awaited return as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home at this stage, but the actor has now shared a few more details during an in-depth interview with THR.

Cox only appeared in one brief scene in the Spidey threequel, as he sat around a table with Peter Parker, Aunt May and Happy Hogan to give them some legal advice. We've heard that more scenes with the character were discussed (we may have even got to see him suit-up), and the Kin star has now revealed that the table sequence originally included a clever little nod to Daredevil - and not the scrapped Netflix series!

As many of you will be aware, Happy actor Jon Favreau played Foggy Nelson in the Daredevil movie back in 2003, and his role was going to be refenced at one point. “I don’t think they used it, but we added a little Easter egg where he goes, ‘Yeah, I’m a little foggy on how that happened’ or something,” Cox says. “That was a cool moment for me to meet him and chat about all that stuff.”

As for how the scene came about in the first place, director Jon Watts had an idea to reintroduce Murdock with a slight pause before any dialogue kicked in.

“Jon said, ‘I have built in this moment where we reveal you, and no one speaks for a few beats because the audience will have a big reaction,” Cox recalls, chuckling. “I was a bit embarrassed, like, ‘Are you sure?’ I was going with the flow, but thinking, ‘I hope it’s not a letdown.’ But I got a lot of texts from friends who were at the premiere or saw it opening weekend, who told me there was a cool vocal reaction when that scene came on. It’s a strange feeling, but I am so grateful.”

Cox will return as the Man Without Fear, we're just not sure where and when. The actor reiterated that he does know "a little bit" about his MCU future, and hopes for the chance to share the screen again with Daredevil costar Vincent D'Onofrio.

“I am imagining, I am hoping, that our worlds will collide again because the stuff we’ve done in the past was tremendous fun to do, and he’s such an incredible actor. We have to start every conversation with, ‘What do you know?’ because you have to be careful. It’s really exciting.”

Cox is expected to appear in several upcoming Disney+ shows, but northing has been confirmed just yet. Maybe we'll see Murdock and Fosk cross paths again in Echo?

What is interesting is that Spider-Man got his whole trilogy between the sequels of Doctor Strange.

Not that Strange was underused in the past years, it's just that Sony needed a Spider-Movie every two years, so I understand that Holland wants to take a breath (he's been playing Parker non-stop for 5 years).

I'd bring him in around 2026 when Holland is more grown-up and mature, so we can see the evolution of the character.

@UXASIS - on the other hand, I also don't want them to wait too long.

If the trilogy starts in 2026, then we'll get the last one in 2030. And by then we've entered that early 2000s logic of 30 somethings playing college kids.

@UXASIS - they have Into the Spider-Verse films to retain the rights so he can’t take a break for a few years.

Top 10 MCU moment. The EXACT type of scene you only get in a comic book where Matt Murdoch showing up for 2 minutes of legal talk and then dipping is commonplace

@OmegaDaGrodd - with so many moments by now we need more than 10. I have to count the final Eternals fight in the top MCU fights list. A gore-free Invincible moment way better than on JL, tho I haven’t watched The Cut yet.

Yeah to be fair my theatre only had like 3 people vocally respond. Girl next to me is like "who is that" 😂

I honestly don't think Daredevil should fight Fisk, at least not his first time back. He's went up against him 3 times thus far we can give someone else a turn

It's definitely good to have both of them back. I'm glad Feige does in fact playing other people's sandboxes unlike what most people said

In the UK cinema response for Daredevil was bad. They only went nuts when Andrew and Toby showed up

Catching the brick and hitting him with the "I'm a very good lawyer" was pure bliss. Much more to come

Someone should ask him or Andrew about both of them being in the movie and their reactions given that they're both good friends

Same in Germany. Nobody but me and my buddy recognized Matt Murdock and nobody cheered.

After Garfield appeared there were 30 seconds of cheers and screams and the same happend after Tobey appeared.

OT: I read the whole plot a few months ago on Reddit and it was all true.
The same seems to be the case with Dr. Strange 2.

I am so damn happy he is back.

I loved the other two Spideys back, but when I heard rumbles of him making an appearance.....that is what hyped me up the most.

Matt Murdock should be the glue between the films and series for the MCU like Coulson was in phase 1.
