SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Promo Teases Fans Over Those Big Tobey Maguire And Andrew Garfield Return Rumors

A promo video for Spider-Man: No Way Home to mark tickets going on sale features Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jacob Batalon seemingly teasing fans over rumours about some Spider-Men Variants showing up...

Tickets for Spider-Man: No Way Home went on sale yesterday, and while we had been hoping for a new trailer to mark the occasion, it sadly wasn't to be. Now, it feels a lot like Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios plan to keep the movie's biggest secrets under wraps, though only time will tell how easy that is once screenings begin over the next couple of weeks.

The biggest rumour/theory surrounding the threequel is, of course, the inclusion of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker Variants.

We still don't know if they're going to show up, but they are seemingly referenced in this new promo. It opens with Tom Holland saying that he's going to be joined by "two very special friends" before the camera pans out to reveal that he was actually talking about Zendaya and Jacob Batalon.

His Spider-Man: No Way Home co-stars point out that it "makes sense" for them to be there before Holland cheekily asks, "Of course. I mean, who else would it be?"

So, yeah, they're definitely having fun with us at this point!

This doesn't mean Maguire and Garfield will appear in the movie, but it continues to be hard to believe that they won't show up. It's interesting that they haven't been featured in any marketing materials and we can't help but wonder whether Sony plans to let word spread after upcoming press/fan screenings as they did with Venom: Let There Be Carnage's post-credits scene.

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in U.S. on December 17 and in the UK on December 15.

When Tobey and Andrew appear onscreen there will be endgame-level audience screaming footage around.

@Fogs - I doubt it'll be that exciting. With how much that's out there about the movie, even among general audiences, I think the reaction will be more of a "finally!" moment rather than genuine surprise.

@Dredd97 - I'll tell you my experience: I never liked people clapping, cheering or interacting with what happens onscreen.

But I'll admit watching Endgame opening session was something else. It was impossible to remain quiet.

Was one of the best theater experiences I had, the air was electric. I'll never feel that again watching it at home.

@generictheeric - In the screening of "Infinity War" I saw, people clapped when Steve Rogers showed up. In the screening of "Endgame" they clapped when T'Challa and everyone else walked through the portal at the end. It doesn't matter if they expect to see them or not, people are just gonna be excited that it's actually real. Raimi's Spider-Man films were a big part of my childhood and many others, so to actually be watching a new Spider-Man film in 2021 and seeing Tobey Maguire's Peter on screen, it will definitely be a surreal experience.

@LeonNova - You make a good argument, but eh, I still don't know if the reactions will be as strong. I say this as a Raimi fan and someone who has worked in a movie theater for several years.

Infinity War and Endgame were the end of an era, and people didn't know what to expect beforehand. No Way Home is different because leaks have already spoiled the return of Andrew and Tobey for months, and every trailer/promo continues to suggest the three Spidey's will eventually team-up.

I'll admit that the three will very likely inspire cheers and positive reactions, especially for midnight showings, but nowhere near the emotions I regularly saw from Infinity War and Endgame.

I know I'll personally be emotional for the big reveal, but I'm not this movie's main demographic. These theaters will be mostly filled with Tom Holland and general MCU fans, not Raimiverse fanboys like myself.

The fact is nobody cares about this Peter or his supporting characters, they only care about the Sony characters such as Raimi/Webb Spider-man and villains.
