SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Snubbed With No "Best Picture" Nod At Oscars - Read The Full List Of Nominees

The Oscar nominations were announced this morning, and while there were plenty of nominations for Dune, Spider-Man: No Way Home received a single nod...and it wasn't for "Best Picture." Check it out...

We're not surprised, but we're definitely disappointed.

Spider-Man: No Way Home saved theaters last December, but wasn't deemed worthy of a "Best Picture" nod at this year's Academy Awards despite an overwhelmingly positive response from fans and critics. A total of ten movies were included in that category, including the poorly received Don't Look Up and high-profile box office flop, West Side Story (No Time to Die was similarly snubbed despite being hailed as one of the best Bond films).

On the plus side, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings have received Oscar nominations for Visual Effects; unfortunately, that's it for superhero movies.

Dune received plenty of attention, though it is a little baffling to see Denis Villeneuve miss out on a "Best Director" nomination when the movie is up for "Best Picture" and several other noteworthy awards. Oscars gonna Oscar? Regardless, some sort of fan vote was alluded to during the announcement of nominees, so perhaps that's where Spider-Man: No Way Home will find redemption?

Check out the full list of nominees, in the order they were announced, below:

I enjoyed Don't Look Up. Power of the Dog was good and made you watch on but Best Picture? Really? Dune looked beautiful but was half a movie. I'm watching Nightmare Alley tonight and want to see Licorice Pizza. Spider-man is not a Best Picture Oscar movie, it is just a really, really fun film.

Been hearing crazy good things about Drive My Car and The Worst Person in the World.

Really need to catch both of them.

In fairness it’s not actually a great movie. Fans love it as it’s a chance to see some of the actors Sam Raimi cast in his movies and to a lesser extent the Marc Webb ones too. Take these components away and what’s left isn’t that great.

@Spike101 - It's not actually a great movie... to you. And funny enough, it's a better reviewed movie than most of the best picture nominees.

@Moriakum - so was the Last Jedi

@McMurdo

The Last Jedi is probably the most critically acclaimed SW movie outside of Empire.

@regularmovieguy - indeed!

@Spike101 - Mediocre movie with terrible CGi (because it was shot during the worst part of the pandemic, not the artists fault), saved by nostalgia.
Sorry, but it is what it is.

@McMurdo - Exactly. It's all subjective. This awards are meaningless because of that.

@Moriakum - see I agree subjectivity plays a part. But film is far more objective than everyone likes to let on.

@regularmovieguy - to clarify, Empire was not well reviewed by critics. At the time, Empire wasn't received well at all by critics or fans - it wasn't until much later that the film got the appreciation it does today.

Thanks for correcting me. I did not realize that.
