Though it's widely believed that the return of Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their respective incarnations of Peter Parker for Spider-Man: No Way Home is the worst-kept secret in Hollywood, we still haven't had official confirmation, and those involved with the movie continue to play down the rumors during interviews.
Tom Holland has always maintained that if those previous big-screen Spideys are set to appear, he has not been made aware of it, and the actor stuck to that story while chatting to Empire for their latest issue. However, he did tease a scene with a certain character whose identity he was not at liberty to divulge.
Holland reveaedl that he thinks the sequence is “one of the coolest scenes I’ve ever shot,” and also features his Peter Parker, Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May, and Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan. “It’s four people sitting at a table, having a conversation about what it’s like to be a superhero, and it was amazing. The other day we watched the scene, my brother and I, and our jaws were on the floor.”
He may not be referring to Maguire or Garfield, of course, as No Way Home is shaping up to have more than a few surprises in store - but we can't imagine one of the returning villains sitting around yapping about being a hero with Parker's family, so we're leaning towards one of the other webbed wonders!
A new trailer for No Way Home is expected to debut soon, though we don't have a specific ETA. While specific plot details remain under wraps, we do know that Peter will go to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and ask him to cast a spell to make the world forget that he's really Spider-Man. This has disastrous consequences, as the likes of Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Electro (Jamie Foxx), and other Multiverse villains are unleashed.
Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters this December.
