SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Will Make Short Work Of THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS And THE KING'S MAN At The Box Office

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to web up more box office records in North America this weekend, and that's bad news for the likes of The Matrix Resurrections and The King's Man. Read on for details...

Seven new movies are set to be released this holiday season, including The Matrix Resurrections, Sing 2, The King's Man, The Tender Bar, A Journal for Jordan, American Underdog, and Licorice Pizza. Those last four aren't likely to make much of an impact at the box office, of course, but each of the movies listed above will nonetheless be demolished by Spider-Man: No Way Home

Not even a slew of new blockbusters and family films can slow the wall-crawler's momentum; Variety reports that the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios movie is eyeing a $90 million haul over the Christmas weekend. Nothing else should come close, as even The Matrix Resurrections is only set to pull in between $40 million - $50 million between now and close of business on Sunday.

Sing 2 is also eyeing $40 million over that five-day period, though it's bad news for The King's Man as Matthew Vaughn's third instalment of the franchise -  which is a prequel - is looking at a $15 million - $20 million debut. The Matrix Resurrections would no doubt have been much higher had it not been released to HBO Max subscribers, and piracy is almost certainly going to deal a blow to box office.

So, with Spider-Man: No Way Home set to dominate yet again, we should see the movie crack $1 billion worldwide very soon. None of these new movies are expected to make much of a dent internationally over the weekend, either, especially as most countries don't open theaters on Christmas Day.

What do you plan on watching this weekend?

@SpideyPuffsMJ - Still not as sad as The Last Duel bombing, probably my film of the year so far (that or Green Knight)

Well Monday and Tuesday together it has made 150 million, so if it does the same the next two days, it’ll reach 900,000,000 by Friday. If it doesn’t it will cross that on Friday for sure, so Saturday it’ll pass 1 billion, Sunday I’m guessing it will pass Joker and be the highest grossing movie not to open in China. So I think 1.1 billion by Monday. To me the goal is passing avengers part one, 1.519 billion. That will make it the third highest grossing movie in the MCU, tho it would be awesome if it could pass infinity war, but without China, that’s a bold bet.

I think Spider-Man will bank on this whole fear mongering of the Omicron variant. And what I mean by that is both camps of folks between those who fall for the fear mongering and those who oppose it will come out and see the film before more restrictions come in place. This will make it sort of the must do of 2021 before the year ends and the "surge" happens.

I still can't believe how much I loved this film. It's my favorite superhero film since Logan and surpassed Captain America Winter Soldier as my favorite MCU film

Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home grossed $31.4M on Tuesday, -15% from Monday’s $37.1M at 4,336 locations. All in, Spider-Man: No Way Home counts $328.7M stateside through five days, the No. 2 five-day gross of all-time after Avengers: Endgame ($427M) and the highest December 5-day gross of all-time beating Star Wars: Force Awakens ($325.4M).

Global for No Way Home, as Nancy Tartaglione will assess, is closing in on the highest grossing movie during the pandemic, No Time to Die‘s $774M. The latest Sony Spider-Man crossed $700M WW yesterday with a cume that stands at $751.3M.

Many analysts believe a $1 billion is feasible for the latest MCU title even without China in the mix, which Sony is still awaiting a date for.

@PeterDarker121 - That last one isn’t even a question, it’s more like how high will it get without China rather than how low

I finally had some free time to go see NWH last yesterday, and I could not find a theater with any good seats. The evening showing were almost completely sold out at the couple of theaters we like to go to. We finally settled on an older theater that's not as popular as the fancier ones we go to, but even then it was packed.

Great movie. My favorite Spider-Man movie, my favorite comic movie of the year, edging out Suicide Squad.

Matrix 4? Pass. Sing 2? Prob lots of folks will watch it, but talk about a belated sequel. My kids were way more childlike when Part 1 came out, young teens now. That’s not great for kid movies. But still my ex is taking them cuz her step kids are younger, so they gotta go… I’m sure they want to but don’t wanna admit it haha. I took em to Spidey 😁 then there’s kings man. I think teenagers will be the ONLY ones watching it. Mine are interested.

So the movie that’s out for FREE to subscribers of HBOMAX isn’t going to make as much as a movie that’s only in theaters and has 3 different Spidermen from 3 different franchises?

Holy smokes? My mind is blown away!

How could this be?

Rewatched the original Matrix again last night and holy shit it just gets better every-time. Still one of the best looking blockbusters ever made, love so much of the set design and lighting

This film was a spectacle but just felt like a bit unserious at times. Tom Holland cannot carry his films, I just feel I can never take him serious stuttering and 'acting' like a kid. I think I prefer every other Spiderman including miles morales. This just feels like Tom Hollands adventures.
