Seven new movies are set to be released this holiday season, including The Matrix Resurrections, Sing 2, The King's Man, The Tender Bar, A Journal for Jordan, American Underdog, and Licorice Pizza. Those last four aren't likely to make much of an impact at the box office, of course, but each of the movies listed above will nonetheless be demolished by Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Not even a slew of new blockbusters and family films can slow the wall-crawler's momentum; Variety reports that the Sony Pictures/Marvel Studios movie is eyeing a $90 million haul over the Christmas weekend. Nothing else should come close, as even The Matrix Resurrections is only set to pull in between $40 million - $50 million between now and close of business on Sunday.
Sing 2 is also eyeing $40 million over that five-day period, though it's bad news for The King's Man as Matthew Vaughn's third instalment of the franchise - which is a prequel - is looking at a $15 million - $20 million debut. The Matrix Resurrections would no doubt have been much higher had it not been released to HBO Max subscribers, and piracy is almost certainly going to deal a blow to box office.
So, with Spider-Man: No Way Home set to dominate yet again, we should see the movie crack $1 billion worldwide very soon. None of these new movies are expected to make much of a dent internationally over the weekend, either, especially as most countries don't open theaters on Christmas Day.
